Liberals Workplace Policy In Witness Protection.
Jun 8th, 2012 at 8:14am

STRIKES have more than doubled in the year to March, new data shows, sparking a demand from the federal opposition for a forthcoming rewrite of workplace laws to deal with the issue.    Huh

In the year to March 2012, there were 257,600 working days lost to industrial action, the Bureau of Statistics figures show, compared with 117,500 in the year to March 2011.

But they also showed the 43 disputes in the first three months of this year was 31 fewer than there had been in the final three months of last year.

A large proportion of the working days lost were in the coalmining industry, which accounted for 43 per cent of lost time.

The opposition leapt on the figures, saying they showed there was a ''militancy problem with the Fair Work Act''.

Opposition spokesman on workplace relations Eric Abetz predicted a forthcoming review of the act would not help deal with the problems. ''Minister Shorten constantly tells us that there are no problems with working days lost and that they are holding 'steady','' Senator Abetz said. ''Working days lost doubling over the space of the year is hardly 'steady'.''

There has been a long-term fall in strikes with more than 1.5 million days lost to industrial action in 1991 - more than six times higher than today.

Workplace Relations Minister Bill Shorten said industrial disputes fluctuated from quarter to quarter.

During the Howard government, the average working days lost per thousand employees per quarter had been 13.7 - triple the current standard of just over four days. Mr Shorten said the opposition needed to reveal the workplace relations policies it would take to the next election.   Sad

''When will Mr Abbott and Mr Hockey bring their workplace relations policy out of witness protection and have a real debate about alternative policy?'' Mr Shorten said.    Sad

{Comes in the spring the trap}

I noted the words "During the Howard government"

If Labor is so quick to tar the LIBs with Workchoices then I ask:

Why did Workchoices come in and WHEN did Workchoices come in?

Set as many traps as you like Maqqa.   I am merely quoting a part of an article that is suggesting that mentions working days lost were higher under the Howard Government than what it is now.  So, under Labor the amount of days lost has decreased.   Nothing about Work Choices was mentioned in my particular posting.

Go for the cheese mate......
