idiot.

Sad that you can't even manage to understand a simple question. Y'see I didn't put it up as proof of ANYTHING. I put it up and asked YOU to explain it. Can you?

AP, lolly, macca... they all failed. I take it you also have no explanation?

Well from the graph, -
- in 2001, Australia's asylum seekers dropped dramitically compared to OECD who had a drop in mid 2002
- in 2008, asylum seeker numbers started a sharp upward trend after the OECD which had their sharp upward trend in 2006

Now OECD meets our trend, where Pacific solution and OECD were worlds apart.

Pacific solution 2001-2007. Shows Pacific solution worked.

Yes, Miss Gillard did extremely well on Q&A and, yet again, campaigned very successfully for the soon to be returned Coalition.

you mean perhaps in 18 months they might get in? Not if abbott is still there.

SOB

They didn't, they just forced more women & children onto boats due to their restrictive nature.
Did you miss the answer?
Or don't you care that more women & children got onto boats to reunite with husbands & fathers?

As a father, I know that if I left my wife and kids back home while I go to Australia, it would only be because I was country shopping, not because I or they were in danger.

If I or they were in danger, we would all go.

go where? they didn't have definite destinations, they don't know what will happen or even how they will do it .. many go to see what they can find before sending for their wife and kids. ....

they DIDNT know they were going to australia??  you realyl want to lead with that? Did they think the boat was headed to america or sweden?

you really are stupid aren't you? .. did they get on a boat in Afghanistan? or maybe in Iraq ?... and sail all the way here

Well good on you for having a stab lolly.

And you're right - the OECD drops lag behind ours and rises lead ours. I'd interpret that as meaning that asylum seekers start going to other places in the OECD before they start coming here. They stop coming here before they stop going to OECD countries.

In other words, we are a not a preferred destination. So we should stop whining.

More like the sharp downward trend when the pacific solution kicked in, in 2001, then a lag of a year after 2007 when the pacific solution stopped, before we see a sharp increase.

With labor in charge and anything goes for the asylum seekers, the trends are almost together so we are a preferred destination. Our trend still going up and OECD still coming down, to meet each other.

For Australia maybe.

But for the OECD the downward trend continued until 2006 when it started rising again. Just in time for the Pacific Solution to be canned in 2007.

See? The PS reduced numbers across the OECD! Now how did that happen?

OECD was sharp down, then sharp up. An event maybe. Australia's has been a gradual incline from the low of lows and then a sharp increase from 2008. Suggest a lag from a good policy.

lolly, sounds you've got it the wrong way around. The dark stuff is Australia's numbers. The pale stuff is OECD.

Might as well quote the price of fish on mars as to compare with the OECD. as if the OECD is in any way typical of australia in this regard.

The graph tells a different story. They are in fact very similar.

YOU say the drop in numbers in Australia was due to the Pacific Solution. I am pointing out that there was a drop across the OECD. If you insist that the PS caused the drop in numbers in Australia then you better be prepared to explain how it did that across the OECD.

So.. off ya go! I'm listening.
