Bravo Juliar: Carbon tax to cost farmers billions
Jun 28th, 2012 at 1:13am

AUSTRALIA'S farmers will be hit with a massive $3.2 billion jump in annual costs when the carbon tax takes effect next week, slashing industry profitability.

A study released yesterday by business analysts IBIS World forecast the new carbon tax imposts would push down revenue for the agricultural sector next year by 6.4 per cent, from $54 billion to $50.5 billion in 2012-13.

And ignorant inner-city Greens voters wonder why people in rural areas dont vote for the Greens....

Despite the lower interest rates, tax cuts, low fuel prices, all the tax breaks and the ability to use alternatives rather than carbon intensive goods and services..
I reckon our primary producers are a lot smarter than you give them credit for.

Put it this way..the higher interst rates, GST and fuel prices under John Howard meant much more expensive operating costs than the carbon tax.
If the farmers got through that they will easily be able to get through a revenue neutral tax that all of them get tax breaks on anyway.

Are the farmers also complaining about the zillions of dollars of potential income they could make from producing the carbon credits that get sold in the ETS? I'm pretty sure they are potentially big winners in all this.

Except that farmers get their diesel excise-free, making it about 90c/litre.
