Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is pressing Australian companies to invest more in its domestic cattle industry as part of a plan to resolve the live cattle export tensions left over from last year, which simmered throughout this week’s annual leaders’ summit.

Dr Yudhoyono stepped up the pressure in three speeches during the summit in a clear warning that Indonesia will not accept a return to trade based mainly on Australian cattle exports after last year’s ban.

Australian beef producers are in talks with Indonesia to change their laws, in order to give foreign investors greater security. They want to invest not only in Indonesian abbatoirs, but also in feed lots. Creating strong ties in the worlds biggest muslim nation will give greater access not only to Asia but also the entire Muslim world.

Abbotts 'like it or lump it' attitude to Indonesia is going to help how?

perhaps what the relationshiup needs is a PM willing to push back a bit. We give them BILLIONS in aid and other help but when we want something... they are never there.

If Abbott is for encouraging price rises while the Liberals are in opposition, what will they do for ordinary people when they have real power?

He's made clear this week that the Liberals stand for damaging therelationships with Indonesia. His racist anti-foreigner stance will further damage Australia's international standing, encouraging attacks on 'otherness' in Australia and damaging the economies third biggest income earner education. He will scrap carbon emissions trading scheme, bringing uncertainty to those looking at investing in Australia.

An Abbott led government will be disasterous to Australias short and long term prosperity and race relations within the community. He's a coward and dinosaur.

He's a coward and dinosaur.

Didn't the woman on stage at the aboriginal rally in Canberra that turned into a near riot forcing Gillard and Abbott to flee refer to Abbott as PM? I'm sure she said "Prime Minister Abbott".

This is because the media interviews him instead of the PM when things happen that the PM should be interviewed about. Everything is about abbot. If they do mention gillard its what abbot thinks about her. On her birthday the headlines were "Abbott wishes PM happy birthday". WTH.

Yes longy that's it you twit, we really need to get indo right off side again your arrogant moron. You don't develop good relations by acting like you are a colonial power in a region where you are actually not so big. The liberal party put AU in a diplomatic ice box with indo for 10 years and things are now only just beginning to start to get back to where they once were. Abbott, the biggest mistake the country is about to make. It's like watching a teenager make the most stupid mistake of their life, you simply cannot get through to them how stupid it is yet Abbott will get elected anyway.

and what are we gtting for this supposed 'improved relationship'? we get to give tham a heap MORE money in returnfor zero co-operation over trade or boat people or anything else for that matter. Yes, they might talk a bit more no, but they still arent the slightest bit interested in actually doing anything for us ever, on eny topic of concern.

A few thousand reffos are only important to the Libs because they see that blowing it all out of proportion is their ticket to power.

If anyone thinks helping these people will sink the country they have no idea just how big our migration program is or the need for new citizens just to keep the economy ticking along in the future.
Neo cons may keep falling for Abbotts scams but most of us know there is more important things our leaders should be spending their time on.

Liberals actively encourage price increases.

Is it just coincidence that every time we see some nasty action that the Liberals always seem to be lurking in the background?

When did I say it was abbotts fault? Of course he takes advantage of it in his childlike way but its the medias fault. Thing is i would be screaming just as loud if someone else was in power and the media kept interviewing the opposition instead of the government Its blatant.

And what is the "too" ?
