You really think it makes me feel good to know that my entire country and the entire world are getting ripped of and driven into crippling poverty?

No, but it makes you feel good to think you're better than everyone else by claming to be driven by altruism towards those less fortunate. The implication being that everyone else = evil, but you're a lone hand fighting for all that is good. I understand the appeal, I really do, but such self deception is incompatible with my character.
