The Refugee Convention was about saving European refugees from the the aftermath of the Nazis and the commies.

The Afghans, the Iranians, the Iraqis, Sri Lankans, Vietnamese - they are all fleeing themselves. They are fleeing Muslim, Communist, nazi (nationalist) regimes they willed into existence themselves.
