I have not seen people suggest a solution yet.

Only criticize and bring bad news.

Anybody can do that, what is your suggestion to replace a petrol car that serves both long and short term distances and also meets demands of more energy for the world?

You can't do that in an economical way - it requires a hybrid vehicle which is too expensive.
Fortunately - most people just makes short trips for 99% of the time
so an all electric vehicle is the answer.
Maybe they could keep their old petrol car for long trips?

You could lead by example bobby/lastnail and buy one yourself.

But we know what your answer will be to that suggestion...

I will buy one when they are reliable & under $20,000.

you don't got to buy anything to debate an issue. Only a moron like gold_muppet thinks that is a prerequisite  for an intelligent debate Sad

When you berate everyone else for not buying an EV then yes, it is a prerequisite. Not that you would ever understand it. And funnily enough, neither does bobby but then again he is your sock.

Europe (typical!) has the worlds biggest subsidies on EVs and they still can barely give them away. The VOlt IS subsidies heavily and is a very poor seller. It sold 7000 last year out of a market of 16million.

Subsidy and low price are no alternative for functionality. It would be like exalting over you 90" LCD Tv that you pad $500 for but you can only use it between 4am and 5am and if the sun hasnt been shining you get a 12" picture only.

How many times do I have to tell you. People are not going to pay 60K for a Volt when Toyota is flogging its Camry Hybrid for 30K !! At the end of the day a Volt is just a Holden Cruze with an electric drive train and the petrol Cruze sells for around 20K !! The Cruze with electric drive train and small generator motor shouldn't add anymore than an extra 10K to the final price but somehow Holden wants you to believe that it is worth 3 times the price !! Go figure !!

Care to explain why GMC wants so much for this car ? Maybe they don't really want to sell it and just wanted to appease Obama when he bailed them out of a chapter 11.

GMC has a habit of killing off its own competitor to oil Sad It's not the first time that GMC has killed off its own electric car program Sad

And with regards to flat screen displays. Remember how much the first ones cost ?? How much do they cost now ?? All new technology costs a lot when it is first released but the issue here is that electric vehicle technology is not that new is it !!

What is this? 'proving my point' day? You spend endless days abusing and berating anyone and everyone who doesnt 100% agree with you - a position which says we should all be using EVs even though you refuse to buy one yourself.

The ironic thing is, your reason for not buying an EV is the same as everyone elses. Too expensive and not good enough yet. As has been stated many times, the choice of EV or ICE is economic and practical. At the moments EVs cost way too much and are a very poor substitute in functionaility for petrol vehicles. So why isanyone - including you - surprised that they dont sell well? Paying more for less has never been a great marketing slogan.

read what I write properly and stop spouting the same old drivel. I have NEVER stated that everyone should be driving EV's. I have stated that EV's should be made available for people to buy instead of being supressed by vested interests Sad

Regarding the cost of an EV, until you can explain why a Toyota Hybrid camry sells for 30K and the GM Volt hybrid sells for 60K then your argument is totally fallacious so stop parroting the sam old sh.t about the cost of EV's. The low cost of the Toyota Camry hybrid blows all of your economic arguments right out of the water.

This is for gold_muppet who still doesn't get it Sad

http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and-reviews/car-news/ford_falcon_sales_near_all...

Quote:
Ford Falcon sales near all-time low

Less than 1000 Falcons were delivered in July as the company battled the continuing sales slide for its one-time hero car and the fallout from 440 sackings at its factory at Broadmeadows in Melbourne.

The official total is likely to be around 945 cars, only slightly better than the dismal 931 in January, although confirmation will not come until Friday with the monthly new-car sales results from VFacts.

“It’s challenging,” is the only comment from Neil McDonald of Ford Australia. Falcon now only rates fourth among Ford’s nameplates in Australia and was outsold by the Ranger ute, Focus and Fiesta in July.

The showroom scorecard will show the Toyota HiLux continued its run as Australia’s favourite in July with just over 4150 sales, well ahead of the second-placed Mazda3 at 3355 and the Toyota Corolla at 2980.

Once again, the Holden Commodore is back in the pack – after losing its long-term number one position at the end of 2011 and suffering a mauling from the Mazda3 and HiLux this year – with 2360 sales.

It is expected to trail the locally-made Cruze compact again when official figures are released, but could also fall behind Holden’s new workhorse, the Colorado ute, which is tipped for close to 2700 sales.

The Colorado success came as utes continue to out-perform the overall market growth this year, with Nissan also delivering more than 2100 of its Navara pickups and the Ranger doing around 1700 for Ford.

Toyota dominated through July with around 17,000 sales, compared with Holden at just on 8900, then Mazda and Hyundai.

Very few to choose from and very expensive at the moment. The Nissan LEAF is 50K here whilst it sells for around 30K in the US even when the AUD is above parity. Go figure !! The Mitusbishi MiEV is around 50K as well and only available for lease as fleet cars Sad Hardly call that choice Sad The GM Volt to be released here somehwere around October will sell for 60K whilst its petrol counterpart sells for 20K. Go figure !!

On the other hand the Toyota Camry Hybrid sells for around 30K here but you can't plug it in Sad Seems they want to make everyone pay through the nose for that plugin capability even if it's only for 60 km's  !! Unbelievable isn't it  Shocked

You can't plug that car in and bypass the fool bowser !! Naughty Naughty !! Shame shame shame....

As has already been explained. Hybrids and electric cars are very different. The batteries and motors on a hybrid are far smaller than a full electric car. You can't just put a plug on it without massive redesign.

But all cars in Australia are much more expensive in comparitive.

Example -

Mercedes Benz C250 2012 Sports

USA - $39,500
Australia - $71,950

I dont think electric has anything to do with it.

This - in my experience - is a VERY EXPENSIVE country in everything. I am shocked how much you pay for everything compare to in europe or usa.

You are still proving my point. EVs ARE available right now, today. Theres a small range to choose from. But you continue to moan and groan about why there are not more which of course is because people like YOU dont buy them.

Try again and see which other point of mind you prove next time. But it will be lastnail or booby that responds. You are both the same person.
