Nick Warner gave a speech on ABC24 about ASIS and how secret they are.

He is the ONLY person who works in that agency that can be named publicly. In 60 years, not one action of this agency has been made public knowledge beyond the vague info given in Warner's speech. How else are they to recruit people if no one knows even a little about them? Look at the CIA!

But apart from that, think about this. Warner said his aggency had made big progress in disrupting people smuggling operations. That makes me laugh when we get 2 or 3 boats a day most weeks. I have to wonder how bad it'd be if, as he claims, ASIS wasn't doing its job particularly well. The timing is also more than a little coincidental, with Gillard floundering like a dying fish on this issue. Clearly he was ordered to do this in the hope that it would give Gillard some kind of bump in the polls. As if!

Perhaps it was meant to be reassuring in that they actually know who the refugees are

That's almost as good as the cone of silence. Only a very secretive organisation would give speeches on ABC24.
