Yes, BR, I know Liverpool.

Lived there for a while in the mid-90s (Lewis Rd).

Sad to say, you are right...

And you think it's any worse than it used to be?

In many areas, Sydney used to be much worse. Blacktown and Mt Druitt were no-go areas a generation ago, full of violent, alcohol-fuelled white rage. Even Bondi had its moments.

Immigration has raised the population. And with this, you get more consumer choice. Who would have even thought of buying snapper in Liverpool thirty years ago?

Now, the food is better, the prices are lower, and the shelves are overflowing.

Immigration is no cure-all panacea, but I don't know anyone who would want to return to the bland, boring and insular suburbs of the 1970s. Back then, if you grew up in Liverpool, you stayed there. There was a huge class divide in Sydney. Without a doubt, immigration has helped to change this.

A regime of Co Payments from the countries of origin of illegal cross border offenders would greatly assist Australia meeting the high cost of care and mandatory detention for their citizens before they are deported...

Liverpool was known as working class back then and as for areas like Blacktown ect of having a bad name. well dumping public housing in one place had everything to do with that and multiculturalism had nothing to do with solving the problem. And as for those in Liverpool going no where, many of those from out here did during the 70's. In fact more so then today. Back in those days people use to pack up the caravan or tent and get out and about and enjoy this beautiful country. Why do you think panel-vans and the first hatchback torana with the hatch huch tent came out. We use to get out there. And as for differences in class. there is a larger gap now then what we had back then with the standard of living getting worse.

when ppl in oz are on waiting lists that stretch years for housing and boat ppl jump straight to the front of the queue the average aussie go into a rage??

It is the thick headedness of labor which stops them from seeing this.

I can tell you right now if a new leader took over labor someone sensible and they punted the carbon tax and reinstated the pacific solution they would go to 60% in the polls. But they wont so they'll stay in mid 20s. They are too proud, dense and stupid to realise where they fall over.

The average Aussie doesn't

wait years in a line for a house, they go out and buy one or pay rent, your argument is bullsh it,yet again,Mel.

Mandatory detention of illegal immigration offenders should be strictly on a user pays basis - there should be co contribution from the offenders country of origin and they should work off the cost of their detention till they are deported.... Cool Cool

Australian citizens are not an endless line of credit for every hard luck case in the world, this kind of thinking has economically flattened this country making it a net non producing nation.  We are now subsidizing the world - are you happy?  Yes, I think about what I am saying and australian citizens and our legal rights matter too and its time to uphold them. Cool Cool

Then you're though process is all screwed seeing as how most of these people are running from their governments, what makes you think their govt. is going to contribute? It's like asking abbott to contribute to Gillards political fund raising ....IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN

They are queue jumpers

I have no problems with people claiming asylum

I have no problems with people being assessed on a first come first serve basis

Lefties who hates "the rich" who uses money to get preferential serves - now supports people paying money to people smugglers to help them to enter Australia illegally.

You are negative, but wishing it wont happen wont stop reform and change - what problems do you have in illegal alien scum co contributing to the excellent care they receive in mandatory detention or do you think they are just entitled?  Why is it the rich only want Australians to co contribute for welfare and not illegal cross border offenders not constitutionally recognized as citizens? Tongue Tongue

So contributing to your welfare is ok but its not ok to contribute to the welfare of people escaping rape, torture and murder and those who will produce the next few generations of professionals that will pay for the pensions and welfare of our aging population.
