'Damaged' asylum boat found by Indonesian search vessels

INDONESIAN authorities have found a boat carrying about 60 asylum-seekers that had broken down and started taking on water while on its way to Australia.

The boat was found adrift in waters between Bali and Java this morning by the Indonesian search and rescue agency Basarnas.

Those on board, believed to be Iraqis and Iranians, told authorities they had been drifting for three days with engine trouble.

“We located them this morning at 5am near Madura Island in the Bali Sea,” said Surabaya Basarnas chief Sutrisno.

The boat issued a distress call last night but a search for the vessel was initially called off because of poor light.

Those aboard the boat also contacted the ABC overnight, saying they wanted to go to Australia and expressing concern that Indonesian search and rescue authorities were trying to locate them.

“We found them in a damaged boat,” Sutrisno said.

“We're going to take them to Surabaya so that immigration officials can deal with them.”

One passenger told the ABC that the boat was taking on water.

“The pump doesn't work. The water is coming in the boat,” one passenger said.

In another call, the ABC said had contacted Indonesian search and rescue authorities.

“Why?” one passenger said.

“I come to Australia. No, no, no.”

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority was alerted to the emergency just after midnight but Basarnas officials rejected offers of assistance.

And we were told it was not possible.

It would be a shame if there were all these prank calls to save us in a leaky boat, only to find there was no-one there. I mean, to waste recourses like that would be terrible.

When you have a chance ring your local pollie and ask if you can come along to a citizenship ceremony. There you will see dozens of these evil illegals proudly becoming Aussies and celebrating their new lives.
Put real people and families into the picture instead of nightly news bites and opposition hate mongering and you will quickly change your mind about these people.

where is whitey with his 'let's hang all boat-people from the sydney harbour bridge' solution????

The moderators should be ashamed of themselves for letting him get away with that one!!

I, for one, demand an apology for the bloodthirsty comments allowed by some and not others on this forum!!

Australia has a legal right to defend its borders and protect its citizens from illegal invasion and the legal right to use force - lethal force if necessary to do it.  We can use Predator Drones as a border security measure to enforce our rights. Cool Cool
