HSU president Williamson resigns
Aug 1st, 2012 at 3:16pm

Quote:
Health Services Union (HSU) national president Michael Williamson has resigned and national secretary Kathy Jackson is expected to follow suit within weeks.

Mr Williamson stood aside in September amid allegations of misuse of union funds probed by Fair Work Australia and police.

But the resignation, by text message to a senior union official on Monday, came in response to the leaking of a report by barrister Ian Temby QC, who found more than $20 million of questionable payments were made to suppliers without any form of tendering or contract.

Ms Jackson, who with her predecessor Craig Thomson was also the subject of the FWA probe and the former executive president of the East branch, is also expected to resign within weeks.

'Watch this space,' Ms Jackson told AAP when contacted on Wednesday.

The HSU national secretary said she had bought a home in Sydney and planned to move there soon.

Acting HSU president Chris Brown told AAP he received a text message from Mr Williamson tendering his resignation.

The union's national executive, which had previously passed a motion calling for Mr Williamson's resignation because of the damage he caused to the union's reputation, endorsed the resignation at a meeting on Tuesday.

'What has changed now is we now have an independent objective report - the Temby report - which clearly show there were problems with financial management of the East branch for which he (Mr Williamson) was responsible,' Mr Brown said.

'If Michael Williamson had not resigned we would have had to consider what position we would have to have taken in regard to the Temby report.'

Mr Williamson's resignation had brought an end to his association with the HSU, Mr Brown said.

The vacancy will be filled in an election within the next six weeks by about 90 members of the HSU national council, including East branch administrator Michael Moore.

Mr Moore, who was appointed by the Federal Court, which found the union's largest branch dysfunctional, has frozen the accounts of East branch and is planning its separation into three branches and fresh elections.

The demerger is expected to occur this month and elections finalised by October.

The problem is Jack, very few people in fact nobody has English grammar as bad as you.

You could create 1,000,000 IDs over the space of 30 years - every one of them would be so easy to pick because frankly so few people are as thick as you my friend.

Why do they pass a motion demanding a resignation?

Talk about backward.  Why not pass a motion terminating them instead.

its got something to do with money if they get sacked then they are entitled to everything.. if they resign then the company they work for can refuse them some entitlements.. I think like accrued  sick leave or long service I am not sure.. but there is a reason for it..

good riddance I would sayAND FOR THE LONG SERVICE MEMBERS i HOPE HE GETS NOTHING.
