Mr Newman What About Those New Police Officers.

Police school cuts put LNP pledge at risk

    by: Robyn Ironside, Alison Sandy
    From: The Courier-Mail
    August 04, 2012

AN LNP election promise to deliver 1100 new officers in four years could be thwarted by Queensland Police Academy budget cuts.    Shocked

The Queensland Police Union has lashed out at changes which halve the number of trainers and reduce shifts by an hour.    Sad

QPU president Ian Leavers said police hierarchy was "asleep at the wheel" when it came to the LNP's commitments.

"This is false economy and will lead to police being sworn in who are undertrained, under-prepared and will not be able to effectively enforce the law," he said.

"We are flat out delivering the current number of police recruits and now with these arbitrary changes, there is no way we can deliver on the LNP's election commitments."

The changes come as the Newman Government targets civilian workers in the police service and Department of Community Safety for further "efficiencies".

Figures being discussed include 25 per cent of police corporate services and 240 employees from DCS including corrective services, ambulance, and fire and rescue.    Sad

The workforce reduction is expected to take place over the next two years.

Alex Scott from Together Queensland, which represents unsworn officers, said any move to cut civilians would be disastrous.

"As a result of last year's pay rise for police, 500 civilian workers were targeted," he said.

"That had a considerable toll on the ability of police to safely perform their duties and any further reduction would seriously undermine the police service."    Sad

A spokesman for Police and Community Safety Minister Jack Dempsey confirmed the role of corporate service staff in the police service was under review.

"We have asked each department to review back-of-house corporate management," he said.

"Any further information will be finalised in due course."

Premier Campbell Newman refused to assure Justice staff about plans to axe at least six courthouses and the State Reporting Bureau where 200 people work.

"They'll find out in the Budget," he said.

Queensland Law Society president John de Groot said courthouses were "vital pieces of infrastructure, particularly in remote and rural communities".

"I accept there is some imperative with cost savings but I would urge the Government to be very careful," he said.

Mr Newman denied the Government was unfair to those concerned by keeping them in the dark.    Sad

"We will be dealing with this before the end of September," he said.

"The previous government put us on to this pathway."   Roll Eyes    Sad

its a lot of fun watching the bad attitude lefty-losers complaining about an election in which they were all but wiped out. Has it occured to any of you (and let's face it, it hasn't) that perhaps Queenslanders actually want Newmans policies and for them to be affordable? I know the concept of balanced budgets and 'spending your own money' eludes you much of the time, but most people get it - and want it.

It's even more fun looking at the shocked look of lefties and righties who voted LNP when they realise their job has gone.    You would think that a union strike in Queensland should not affect anyone because there should be only Labor party supporters there right?  As the previous Labor Government were almost wiped out, then those voters who put Camp Bell in Office have no right to strike do they?  They should willingly and with a smile, collect their last pay check before having to exhaust all the savings prior to collecting their Dole.  Yes, Mr Newman is doing a stirling job in Queensland.  Like Kennet and OFarrel there are more cuts to come.  Oh the delicious irony - those who voted for Camp Bell now victims of their own voting!

Deliciously good isn't it.  Shakespear covered it best

Adjective hoist by one's own petard

1.(idiomatic) To be hurt, or destroyed by one's own plot or device, of one's own doing which one intended for another; to be "blown up by one's own bomb".
He has no one to blame but himself; he was hoisted by his own petard.

Fact is the number of ppl wanting to join the coppers is at an all time low.

You HAVE to be Joking Camp Bell!!

"A POSH picnic party has secured funding from the Newman Government while programs and public servants continue to be cut.
The Courier-Mail can reveal Events Queensland has helped fund the so-called "pop-up picnic party", which requires attendees to dress completely in white.

The Newman Government has refused to say how much taxpayer money is being spent on Diner en Blanc - a phenomenon that has emerged out of Paris.

The decision to help bankroll the event while sacking public servants and withdrawing support for services will again pit the Newman Government against critics rallying against its concerted drive
