Ahh the joys of the welfare state.

If there was decent welfare it wouldn't be happening. Your statement makes no sense.

Homeless people can't work for the dole. Someone will steal away with their tent or cardboard box and all their worldly goods while they're "at work".

This is the result of 50 years of public housing neglect. The states sold off valuable and much needed public housing over the years and neglected to build more to replace those ones, and to cater for an ever growing population.

Why can't they build cheap accommodation out of shipping containers or supply mining style donga's for the homeless. Surely that's better than tents set up in parks and on vacant blocks.

This country has been ruined by bureaucratic red tape that stands in the way of sensible solutions to critical problems. Someone needs to sort out the rules and regulations across the board; keep the worthwhile ones and ditch the useless ones.

Prevailing, I'd like to see you rip it to Tony in the High Court when he brings back Work for the dole, if he ever becomes PM that is.

That's a Walter Mitty fantasy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Mitty

Quote:
Mitty is a meek, mild man with a vivid fantasy life: in a few dozen paragraphs he imagines himself a wartime pilot, an emergency-room surgeon, and a devil-may-care killer. The character's name has come into more general use to refer to an ineffectual dreamer, appearing in several dictionaries.[2] The American Heritage Dictionary defines a Walter Mitty as "an ordinary, often ineffectual person who indulges in fantastic daydreams of personal triumphs".[3] The most famous of Thurber's inept male protagonists, the character is considered "the archetype for dreamy, hapless, Thurber Man".[4]

Although the story has humorous elements, there is a darker and more significant message underlying the text, leading to a more tragic interpretation of the Mitty character. Even in his heroic daydreams, Mitty does not triumph, several fantasies being interrupted before the final one sees Mitty dying bravely in front of a firing squad. In the brief snatches of reality that punctuate Mitty's fantasies the audience meets well-meaning but insensitive strangers who inadvertently rob Mitty of some of his remaining dignity.

Yeh they sold the public housing off to property speculators, developers and hoarders who are now ripping off their tenants whilst enjoying capital gains Sad

At the very least they could offer low cost housing in the form of used shipping containers. It would be better insulated than a tent Wink

Costs too much to manufacture in Australia.

The same morons that put this stuff up are the ones that cheer when unions win pay rises and frown when the bad boss tries to stay competitive.

Reap what you sow…….it is only going to get worse.

Now we have foreign car parts manufacturers over here saying “why employ Aussie at $20 an hour when we do cheap for $2 an hour”

This country is heading down the drain, our bubble hasn’t burst yet, but it will.

Well, Ok, I don't really mean all sorts of domestic help. I am not saying I would let them in the house or anything like that, but there's plenty to do outside So I am hoping for some extra supply of unskilled labour.

Providing employment is a form of charity, especially for the unskilled.
Would you rather let them live in tents for ever - or let me help them help themselves?

No it's not charity. It's a 2 way business contract where you offer a service to an employer and he in turn pays you for that service. There is no charity whatsoever and like any business you shop around for the best deal !! However I don't believe that tax payers should be offering money to foreign corporations which have this as their agenda. That is the charity in all of this  Sad
