Hey Dad: social philosophy.

Hey Dad! was an Australian sitcom, originally airing from 1987 to 1994 on the Seven Network, that was sold to over 20 countries worldwide. It promoted itself as quintessentially Australian in content and character. A significant portion of its international fanbase was in Germany. The Wikipedia page gives more information.

Millions of people have watched it, often for many episodes over many months, and from a psychological perspective one must assume that many adopted it as a role model of sorts for adult/child interaction. In simplistic (but sufficiently accurate) terms, it has long been established that the state of mind induced by watching TV is one of passive acceptance, and many of those watching would have accepted the interactions and events as normal, wholesome, and worthy of emulation.

Recent events suggest that the roles so portrayed are those of a child predator and his knowing and willing victims. Do the producers and promoters of this series thereby incur any responsibility in the likely consequences of the persuasion inherent in producing the series, given that many apparently knew of the on-set personal interactions?

Given what is known of the social persuasiveness of TV (do all those advertiseres REALLY spend money on ads that are NOT effective?) can this be construed as a deliberate attempt at manipulating the mass mind to engage in relationships that may ultimately fall foul of the law, for whatever reasons?

Aaaaaaand.......off we go again.

I'll wait for proof first, before I sharpen the pitch-fork.

I sense that there's WAY more to this than meets the eye.

Was there something in the on-air content that suggested a predatory relationship?

Not that I ever saw, it saddens me what those kids were put through while an unknowing public was entertained by them.  I would say that show is shelved for good, they could never air it again of profit from it surely... Sad Sad Sad

I think the ratings would go up. Beelzebub would be watching it for signs the directors knew about the abuse.

It's a possibility that they knew what was going on.

One of the younger male actors has said that he warned someone??? to never leave the young actors alone with Hughes. So he knew something was not right. You must wonder who else knew?

Not saying Hughes is guilty, the trial must go ahead.  These sort of cases will always attract speculation.

I would like to know about the producer of the programme who allegedly knew what was happening and did nothing.

the tv networks purposely orchestrated a child sexual abuse scandal with the television cast of a program that nobody has cared about in over twenty years with the intent to encourage pedophilic relationships.

yup.
