Well, let's see. The X Factor. Master Chef. The Farmer wants a Wife. The Price is Right. Criminal Minds. Puberty Blues. The Big Bang Theory. Gene Simmons Family Jewels. How I met your Mother. Master Chef All-Stars. LA Hardhats. The Glee Project. Snog, Marry Avoid. Danoz Direct. Law & Order. America's next Top Model.

These are taken from this week's TV programming, all high-quality productions of surpassing artisitic merit by gold_medal's standards, I suppose. Unfortunately, most exceed the intellectual capabilities of Australians, so few will understand my point.

What would you rather have? If you're going to suggest that anything is rubbish, you should at least propose an alternative. For example, how could they do better? Is there too much reality TV? Would you rather have fairy tales instead? More batman, superman, more Miyazaki animes and ghost stories instead? You want more fantasy and sci-fi? You hate real life TV?

Reality TV vs fantasy and fairy tales, which one is better in your opinion?

Do you have any idea what this thread is about or are the inner voices crowding you?

It's exactly the same guy who started this thread.

... or they could form a live band and go on a world tour, just to prove their "artistic versatility". Daddy Dildo and the TV Trash Tarts. On Broadway! And a tribute album with Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdink! Right down there with Priscilla reruns and Sir Les Patterson's unexpurgated autobiography.

It's not the genre, it's the quality, or lack thereof. I get my nightly dose of The Simpsons just to stay sane (the old ones - the new ones just aren't funny). There's an occasional movie I enjoy; some are truly entertaining AND enlightening; the same with the occasional documentary. But it's the flood of cheap crap, much of it either local or Septic-sourced, that's pushed out any hope of quality local content which is the crime. I'd rather a local production company took twelve months over something worthwhile than spew out weekly drivel, and that there were many more of them. Our world has changed; automated manufacturing, agriculture, and mining mean that there's no need for the past number of traditional jobs. We need to find other ways to use our time that enhance our lives, our societies, and who we are as intelligent, evolving entities. Instead, we follow the money motive, and that inevitably leads to a race to the bottom, and a society of artless cretins worshipping at the altar of vulgarity and glamour - think Lady Gaga and Snoop Dogg.

The whole debate has been hijacked and turned into polar opposites, the same as in politics, instead of expanding to include the fundamental social changes that can never be addressed, much less solved, by purely economic considerations.
