When you have screwed up, you say "Sorry". That's the way it works isn't it? You say "sorry", and you endeavor to not repeat the same mistake.

It's as though they will be seen as dumb or weak - but in my view it's a sign of arrogance/weakness if they've been caught out for being in the wrong, but still resist saying that one little word, which can heal a wound very quickly.

Good point. Despite coming to power in 1983 and getting tossed out in the mid-90s Hawke and Keating never found one day in their crowded diaries that would allow them to say sorry. Those two were some of the very vocal people who called for an apology.

We have a surplus of turds in our political ranks, both serving and retired.

Let's do a rough calculation; 1983 - 1996 makes it about 13 years, that's about 13 x 365 = 4700 days in office yet Hawke and his buddy Keating couldn't find just one day to issue an apology. What a pair of turds.
