This forum does suffer from fairly lame moderation especially inthe protection of defamatory comments or abusive behaviour. If you complain to FD he pretends he knows nothing about it, demands you show him evidence and then pretends he didnt see it and then do nothing. The weakest area of this site is PROTECTION of posters from abuse and defamation. and its not hard to fix. It just requires moderators to moderate firmly fairly and without bias.

I've been staying out of the threads that have degenerated into abuse and name-calling.

Sadly, these days that's just about all of them.   Cry

Trying to post on-topic, or putting up a sensible post, is just a waste of time.

No wonder that so many simply no longer bother.

Those safeguards, etc are things Gillard has refused to include in legislation - because she can't. You can't tell a sovereign country what to do in its own detention centres. It's like us telling (or trying to tell) the Americans what to do at Guantanamo Bay.

Niced try - but the bay is in Cuba.....  it is not soverign american territory.  No cigat there

where do you come up with this crap? Gillard had already negotiated various extra conditions be met by the Malaysians that they aren't bound to with their own asylum seekers ... if the report feels that she needs to take it further fine, but don't tell me she can't .... you have a habit of making things up don't you?

and that is why malaysia REFUSES to sign the refugee convention as they have no intention of treating them properly. It is also why everyone except Gillard opposed it including many of her own party. And now she doesnt have to use malaysia becaus now suddenly the amazingly effective Howard Solution is going back into place.

Did she get a guarantee that no people sent from Australia to Malaysia would be subject to corporal punishment in the form of the cane? No, she didn't!

I just hope they reinstate TPV's, because that was a BIG part of the deterrent.

I like how he said, basically, turn back boats where safe to do so. It was not that dissimilar to Abbotts turn back the boats except it was a more defined vague statement if thats possible.

No - the report does not say that at all.  What the report says is:

The panel notes that the conditions necessary for effective, lawful and safe turnback of irregular vessels carrying asylum seekers to australia are not currently met but that this situation could change in the future, in particular if appropriate regional and bilateral arrangements are in place

That is nothing like Abbotts "turn back the boats"

Yeh, thats what I said. Vague turn back the boats.

So, now that the LNP have been proven Right?

Does that mean that, since the "special report" has agreed with the LNP that the LNP will agree with their own policy and agree to pass what they agree is Right?

Julia Gillard 2003:

Labor will end the Pacific solution, the so-called Pacific Solution, the processing and detaining of asylum seekers on Pacific islands because it is costly, unsustainable and wrong as a matter of principle.

Julia Gillard - twice selected, never elected.

We're still paying for the Whitlam Government.
