How many refugees can they fit on Nauru?

It's 1200 bobby. At a squeeze its 1500 but that's the absolute maximum.

Malaysia will take 800 in the deal that was struck, although who knows. If there's to be a rejigging of the agreement then they may change those numbers.

What if they put up barbed wire camps with machine gun guard posts on towers?
You could probably have 4 or 5 concentration camps with 10,000 in each one.

I cant tell if you are trying to be clever (and failing) or just being your usual dumb (and succeeding).

Longweekend/Gold,
It could be the final solution of the refugee question.

Yes, true. IF they support it...

On the other hand it also offers Greens something of an olive branch on the subject. Gillard can go to them and say she took the recommendations of the panel and those recommendations included key elements of what the Greens were seeking.

Greens are not needed.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says the coalition will support legislation to allow offshore processing and welcomes the prime minister's last-minute shift on border protection.

Yeah, he couldn't do much else BUT go along with it could he? He has been cornered. Six weeks ago when this proposal was put to him he rejected it, now he has to go along with it. If he rejected it now his arse would be grass. What a dick.  Grin Grin

So much unnecessary agression and anger.

Tony has said yes, get over it and move on buddy.

And why not, if you will permit me; why shouldn’t I, if you will permit me; spend my first week as prime minister, should that happen, on this, on your, country - Abbott with the Garma People Aug 13

Good point verge.
I would have thought people would be happy.

Basically everyone has got the result they wanted here.

Finally some common sense has reigned.

Just watched a tv program showing the facilities at Nauru.  That place is going to be one heck of a money pit to fix up.

actually, I have a day off.   We had an extremely busy weekend so I am taking the day off and spending it at home with my wife - who is up from Melbourne for a week.  Headcount is fine as is the workforce.

That'll be right, work a week so all of a sudden you take days in the middle of the week off.

We have the same problem in our offices in Australia.

Lazy fkers the lot of you, that would NEVER happen in this country.
You work a weekend because you need to get a job done - its part and parcel of working for a company and to deadlines.

Oh well - the good thing for you is that you are over there flogging your little ring out  for your american overlords.  We tend to value our staff in Australia - but you keep hard at it ok?

People wih Andrei's attitude always strike me as needy, for attention or kudos. you see I measure success by how much little time you need to work and look at the people working weekends and extra time as
1 under achievers
2 incompetent,so they need to make up for their lack of skills/competence by working longer hours.
But the ones that put in all of those extra hours seem to think it is  "worthy".

So true.   My organisation was associated with a company called RLM - which later became Lockheed Martin Australia.  The Yanks are killing each other to stay in Australia - and as a new guy gets here for their two year contract, they are amazed at how easy going, flexible and worthwhile the job here is.    There are some who have been here for 10 years now and unless there is a big promotion on the cards they don't want to go back.

I guess it all comes down to values - you can be a boot liker like Andrei. and earn top dollars to like a bum - or you can take a job that pays a bit less - but doesn't make you a white slave.

I prefer to go home at night to my family rather than blow the boss for an extra dollar
