Yes, true. IF they support it...

On the other hand it also offers Greens something of an olive branch on the subject. Gillard can go to them and say she took the recommendations of the panel and those recommendations included key elements of what the Greens were seeking.

Greens are not needed.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says the coalition will support legislation to allow offshore processing and welcomes the prime minister's last-minute shift on border protection.

Yeah, he couldn't do much else BUT go along with it could he? He has been cornered. Six weeks ago when this proposal was put to him he rejected it, now he has to go along with it. If he rejected it now his arse would be grass. What a dick.  Grin Grin

So much unnecessary agression and anger.

Tony has said yes, get over it and move on buddy.

Good point verge.
I would have thought people would be happy.

Basically everyone has got the result they wanted here.

Finally some common sense has reigned.

Just watched a tv program showing the facilities at Nauru.  That place is going to be one heck of a money pit to fix up.

Re-establishing a processing centre on Nauru is expected to cost $1.4 billion and re-opening processing on Manus Island is expected to cost $900 million.

Wouldn't be a lot cheaper to just allow asylum seeker to fly to Australia and have their claims processed here?

Good work Julia and Tony.  Massive Fail.

Another hectic day at the office then....

Good job you have that headcount working at optimum stream-lined levels.

actually, I have a day off.   We had an extremely busy weekend so I am taking the day off and spending it at home with my wife - who is up from Melbourne for a week.  Headcount is fine as is the workforce.

It wouldn't be costing anywhere near as much had Rudd not dismantled what was a highly successful policy. He could've saved this country billions and saved hundreds of lives, if not for his precious ego and infantile incompetence. The same can be said of Gillard, as she's had ample time to fix her former boss's mess.

Yeah Yeah - so you keep saying.   I guess now that Nauru is about to happen, you righties will have to find something else to whine about!      The increase in asylum seekers on Rudd's watch had nothinhr to do with international factors did it?   It was all about ONE solution.    You guys need to look at the bigger picture rather than just concentrating on the small stuff

By the way, noting that some boats are raising distress signals inside Indonesian waters, and Indonesia basically shuts down at night, would the Libs endorse Australian Patrol Boats going into rescue - or would you just let them drown?  Because in many of the boats that have arrived, we have had to go into Indonesia to answer a distress call.

Oh there is plenty to whine about with Gillard Labor. The only time they get it right is when they take advice or policy from the Libs.
