Might that force more women and children onto boats.

Hunt says Coalition accepts IPCC findings

"What does this mean? It means that we need to do practical things that actually reduce emissions."

So why did Labor oppose John Howard's Nauru offshore processing again?

because in addition to being soft-hearted they are also soft-headed. Rudds 'good intentions' caused the deaths of thousands. As a good leftie you should be pretty familiar with the concept of mass killings in support of your ideology.

Labor has admitted they think John Howard was right on refugee terrorism. So how much will this add to the country's medical bill when we have to treat these new victims once then get to Australia.

And what of the elephant in the room, the legal challenge. When the high court likely deems offshore processing illegal, just like Malaysia.

when did labor admit that? are you hearing voices again?

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

So how will Labor impose refugee terrorism on these people?

you didn't answer the question, when did labor admit that Howards policy was right

By Imitating John Howard's policy.

Desperate people willing to risk their lives in the same kind of boats that they know people have died before. To stop this Labor and John Howard's way was/is to make Australia a worse option than the risk of death by drowning.

Hope Labor supporters are happy they have become what they despised in John Howard.

Pat yourselves on the back for your epic sell out of human rights.

i sometimes do things i don't really wish to, it doesn't mean i agree with them  .... a little while ago I threw out a single mother with 2 kids ... its not that I agreed with kicking her out, but thats the business I'm in .... the ALP is in the business of running the country and if the recommendations say to reopen Nauru, then she doesn't have much choice ... she doesn't have to agree with it ... in fact you have to admit she tried her damdest to not go down that road, but she wasn't left with much choice now was she.

So you're saying Labor would have been better off going to the election with the boat issue unresolved. This might be the battle they had to lose to win the war. I'm sure Liberal strategist will be a touch concerned about how this may play out.

it wil be interesting to see how it is preceived by the public but it is hard to see how a complete abject capitulation in policy is going to come across as a vote winner. Her judgement is already considered dodgy by much of the public. This is just a formal repudiation of her past policy failure. After all, she didnt even have the integrity to admit she was wrong and change tack but had to employ some committee to decide for her so she had some way out. She looks weak, she looks wrong and thats exactly how it wil be perceived.

Big win for Abbott today.

where do you people come up with this crap ... the committee proposed exactly what Gillard offered 6 weeks ago ... she only put the comittee in play after Abbott rejected it then .....  you sure do have a strange way of seeing things ... must be nice wearing rose tinted glasses all the time...

The difference being that each country will be approved individually, rather than together. Have I got that right, or was that part of Gillard's original compromise.

the main difference as far as I can tell is that they suggested she go with nauru and Manus island immediately because she can do so, and proceed with malaysia if Nauru and manus island don't stop the boats, mainly because malaysia will take time anyway considering the negotiations and the legislative changes that need to take place first ....

the other different suggestion which, as far as I know, neither party had propsed previously was that Ayslum seekers that are granted asylum are NOT allowed to apply for their families to join them at any stage in the future .... thats was a bit of a curve ball and I'll sit on it a little before i decide if i like it or not ....

The second part is new. Houston cited the family reunions as a significant pull factor.

It is a good idea to remove that incentive to only send one person and the rest will follow later.

That is what Captain Emad did. While we managed to get rid of him we are stuck with his family of welfare parasites.

I think off shore processing is wrong it sends a message to the rest of the world we are racist assholes.
I believe we should accept our fair share of refugees and that it  should not have any bearing on it if you come by plane or boat.
I think they could have, had they wanted to, handed down just the last clause of their recommendations! The one about not bringing out other family,EVER. It would have reduced the amount trying to flee here from their war torn countries. Who would want to flee to such a nasty xenophobic place. This decision just reaffirms  the white Australia policy is still alive and well in the two old parties. if these refugees were Whites We would be sending out ships to meet them and bring them back here. a sad bloody day for this country that nasty xenophobes finally wore Gillard down.

I don't think she does look foolish. I hate the decision it's a disgrace. But I don't think she looks foolish, I bet she has an automatic jump in the polls. Abbott is the one snookered over this because the dickhead won't be able to squawk stop the boats. She has done exactly what Abbott would not have thought she would do. It's removed another wedge, first the carbon tax, now this.

I'd be surprised if they got any boost out of this.

Gillard has been made to look a fool - that's all there is to it. Her own appointed staff have declared that the Coalitiin's policy is the right one, and her 'solution is wrong.
