We can't even look after our own quarter of a million or so who are homeless in this country. Look after our own before we take in others.
These boat people barge in and are on the take.
There is at least a 5 year waiting list for public housing in Canberra. How has Captain Emad's family all ended up with public housing?
I suppose if you're on the public housing waitlist, best to catch a plane to Indonesia and get on a rickety boat. The red carpet will be rolled out for you.
waiting lists depend on what area you are in ... i know areas with 8 yrs waiting lists, and others with 1 yr .... emads family was probably willing to move to an area less popular ...
why do you assume all asylum seekers end up in govt. housing without waiting? I once heard of a sudanese family of 6, asylum seekers , who were renting a 2 bdroom unit and living in cramped conditions, had been there for at least 2 yrs because thats all they could afford , they were on the waiting lists as well ... why do you try to imply that asylum seekers get rushed into govt. housing while everyone else gets pushed back to the end of the queue?
john it does happen in logan in outer brisbane. mainly in the form of people (say an elderly couple in a 3 bedroom home who are moved into a 1 bedroom unit often with lots of druggies and hoons as neighbours0 the house is then given to an assylum seeker family, i can give 3 addresses where this has happened.
the local school has 13 children in grade 1 and 2 who speak no english and (whilst they do get some special help) it is obviously not ideal for the classroom.
again , it's always the working poor in outer suburban bris, sydney and melbourne who have to do the assymilating whilst the good people of toorak, double bay and st.lucia do all the lecturing and none of the hard yards.
there would be an enormous outcry if these kids were put in class with well off kids and the teachers had to cope.
again, assylum seekers are not looked after by medicare, they are looked after by a private contractor called international medical solutions. again, this group has instant access to whatever medical care is needed and there is no wait. it seems wrong to me .
