Not exactly wealthfare SOB...For every child that exits the public schooling system, the funding allocation for that child reduces. This translates into savings for the governments.... that is, less tax needed for allocation to education because the parents are picking up the slack the moment they shift from public to private.

One consequence that has been raised is the idea of working parents with public school children having to pay through their taxes for private school funding.

I'm not satisfied that that is a valid argument. Those working parents of public school children receive most of their tax back as benefits and allowances... FTB A&B, CCB, PPP etc.

Of course there will be a few parents in higher wage brackets who continue to use the public system... but really... if this injustice of the few parents using public schools paying the some of the costs of parents using private schools is weighed against the over all savings to the education budgets resulting from the shift to private schools... the impetus to remove the injustice is simply not there.

Well as I have said before i dont think private schools should receive any funding. They are private - they can support themselves like any other private business. Public schools should receive all the money.

Ok, so lets explore that idea. Lets assume that the government revoke all funding to private schools over a 5 year period.

One of the first consequences would be a mass exodus from private education to public education of both teachers and students.

This will cost more than the current funding model, so how would you pay for it?

You have some very good points there, Sappho.

Especially what'd happen if private schools lost all their funding....

I kind of like the idea of a set amount per child, with that number reducing for private school kids IF the school makes profits over and above a set level .... if the private school isn't making the profits, the amounts being subsidised remains the same as public .... no one losses and tax payers aren't subsidising private schools profits

With the money saved from funding the private schools. There arent that many in private schools as you think. Where were they before the private schools got funding? Seriously the rich ppl will keep their kids in the private schools anyway no matter what it costs because they dont want their kids associating with the rabble.

The reason the public schools are starting to get bad is because all the funding that used to go to them is going to private schools.

If a private school receives the same funding (or more!) than a public school then it should be called a public school and they should let anyone in. Also they should teach exactly the same curriculum.
