I look forward to you scanning next weeks payslip on here & your proud boast that you'll work for a $1.45 p/hour Maqqa.
Not $2 like those leeches in the mines.

The market should always decide salaries without exception.

It is the best indicator there is.

That's why we adhere to Market Capitalism smithy.

If its $2 then so be it.

We don't adhere to market capitalism Andrei
We sight it when it suits the argument & ignore it when it doesn't.
GFC is the perfect example, privatising profits/socialising losses.
Market capitalism would have seen the weak/greedy go under & the strong/clever survive with new enterprises now being started.

What's that got to do with it

Gina's making the point about return on capital

It's simple mathematics - profit = Revenue minus Expenses

If Expenses like labour is lower in African states and the revenue is the same for the same product then you are going to get a higher return

It's okay for you to pontificate your social ideals with other people's money

Facts are while they get paid $2/day - it's still $2 more than what they would get if there were no foreign investments

Every developing country goes through this. China went through this 20 years ago. So has India and now the other South East Asian countries are getting in on the act

There is nothing to say Australia's mining cannot be publicly owned and taken from Gina...and her African mining operations heavily taxed... Smiley Smiley

But it isn't just about wages. For example:

  • Does the country have established infrastructure or does the mine have to build roads, ports, railways as well?
  • Are the citizens reasonably well educated or will the mine need to teach them to drive trucks/trains/ships?
  • Are well-qualified engineers locally available or will they need to be shipped in from overseas at high expense and with difficulty?
  • Does the country have a stable parliament or is there a risk that civil war or other civil unrest will force the mine to be closed?

There would be others but you get the drift. In other words, it ain't just about wages but also ancilliary costs and above all RISK.

And yet on another thread you will blame Gillard for retail figures.
Bitch that we don't have a credit drunk populace as before the GFC.
Yet here you are arguing for wage reductions, what does talk of wage reductions do for consumer confidence.

You & the liberal party need to find a coherent argument, oh that's right you don't need one your going to win on the back of an angry populace whipped into a frenzy by 3 word slogans.

It's a pity Gina doesn't get her butt to Africa and stay there, she'd cause another famine though.

Maybe she has early onset Alzheimer's, she's coming out with some doozies.

The mining bust is getting to her ha ha

She must be worried about where her next meal is coming from.

Gina's business is so weighed down with debt that if iron ore prices drop below "boom prices" shes buggered.
Gina is todays Alan Bond and the slow down in China is beginning to effect debt laden "fair weather" businesses like Ginas and Twiggys.

Excuse me, this is what Ms Rinehart actually said:

Business as usual will not do, not when West African competitors can offer our biggest customers an average capital cost for a tonne of iron ore that’s $100 under the price offered by an emerging producer in the Pilbara. Furthermore, Africans want to work and its workers are willing to work for less than $2 per day. Such statistics make me worry for this country’s future.

Was she calling for a wage cut? No.

Back to your trees Simians.
