Mining downturn - foreign workers (??)

My Mellow Australians, (sips beer on pension day - one only)...

I came across this article - which pointed out a 'downturn' in the mining sector in WA - and referenced Ahr Gina (Wicked Witch of the West) and her project - with it's 1700 out of 800o workers (that's 21.25% BTW)** imported from overseas in the 'construction phase'.

My issues - you may yell at me for redneckery if you wish - are that:-

a) we are massively over-reliant on this bubble in quarrying (description of 'mining' courtesy of Rob Katter)..

b) We are suffering an eternal recession - yet we are still being 'internationalised' by government and its cronies, as if there is no petroleum free tomorrow.

c) The long-term needs of THIS country are being ignored and tossed in the rubbish bin - with no genuine attempt to truly 'educate' any workforce to cater for any future development - and an over-emphasis on 'academic' training to suit 'service industry' "work" (work which is found in the third world at ruinous rates of pay by Australian standards). Angry

**At what point did Australian workers become too dumbed down to do that sort of turkey work?
