Have you seen the footage of the protests Abu? What do you think?

You don't think you two could have sorted this out via a PM? I expect cods will soon start a thread about the multiple threads all dealing with this one topic?

Actually I am surprised that Abu has not yet started a thread complaining about the mistreatment of the protestors.

Or at least explaining how they have been misrepresented. Pansi and spot were onto it way ahead of him.

I have, and I've also seen reports by journalists present who said the Muslims were peaceful until the police began attacking them, only then did they respond and throw stuff.

Did you see them? Did you see them banging a Muslim's head on the concrete? Or did you just see the parts that tell your tales for you?

would you object to them banging someone's head on the concrete if they weren't muslim?

In my experience it is usually the police initiating violence at rallies. And being somewhat familiar with the dark arts of television editing I don't automatically accept the sensationalist images on the nightly news as being anything close to the whole truth.

One could argue that waving a placard around calling for beheadings is in itself initiating violence ... i wanted to beat that kid up too ...

Meh... Call me old fashioned but as long as no specific threats are being made, i.e. specifying whose head you want to cut off, then I don't have a problem with people expressing themselves freely. As for the violent behaviour, I was neither there nor paid much attention to the news footage so don't have much of an opinion. I respect police and don't think an officer should ever be hurt for doing their job BUT in my experience police often go beyond 'doing their job' and sometimes they get hurt, that's not something I am going to get outraged over.

Can you link to them? Are they actual journalists?

I haven't seen much footage at all. The placards were enough for me. I think people kind of miss the point when they focus on the violence. There is something far more dramatic going on than a cop getting his head cracked open.

that is a pretty far fetched. what is your experience in police usually inciting peaceful people to violence? you mean these people turn apeshite when they see the police? is that inciting them?

No, people "turn apeshit" when the police baton charge people or spray them with chemical weapons. Horses are a good one, too, nothing to get a crowd worked up and acting violently like riding over them with police horses. Guaranteed a reaction every time.

But, like I said, I wasn't there and, even if I were inclined to trust news footage, I've actually seen very little of it. My only point is that in MY experience, police often initiate violence that gets blamed on protesters.

so the riot squads around the world are set up to cause riots? that's what 'riot squad' means?
there would be no riots if police kept well away?

Depends what you consider to be the intiating act.

Is it the one who throws the first physical hit, or the one who baits and goads the other at every turn, daring them to take action?

Or is it the one who posted the B grade movie clip on the internet from the other side of the world?

I normally blame the people who are actually committing the violence, not the people they are beating up.
