Abu appears to be confusing establishing a functioning democracy, letting girls attend school etc with America losing a war. Perhaps it is because to him, you only win a war if you get to ride off on the women.

Freediver, Abu has responded to each one of your questions in this thread - bar the one about the treatment of women in Islam (he was a bit cagey about that one). He's made some very reasonable points - particularly about Sirhan Sirhan. I, for one, had no idea he was a Christian Palestinian.

This fact alone shows that not all the madness in the Middle East is Muslim madness - much of it is nationalism. Politics, always politics.

It might be tempting to respond with moronic generalizations, but remember that if you do, Abu clearly has the intelligence to show them for what they are. I'm not a Muslim, know very little about Islam, and have no sympathies for Islamic fundamentalism whatsoever; but I can see when someone has their arse presented to them in a debate.

If you resort to name-calling and mindless, paranoid fantasies, you lose every time.

Abu's showing that calmly rebutting the knucklehead hysteria is the way to come out on top. If you can show me where he's wrong, I'm listening.

I believe it was another member, not Abu, with whom I was debating the relative contribution of religion, nationalism and other secular issues. Abu's contribution to the debate has been to insist that an Islamic militant firing an unguided rocket from the rooftop of a residential area into another residential area should be considered an innocent civilian. Or that the Palestinians are about to have a glorious military victory over Israel which justifies the decades of attempting to violently engage with a vastly superior military power and complaining to the world about the result. Or that the Muslims have never done anything wrong and bear no responsibility for the situation. How about instead of me pointing out where he is wrong, you point out something you think he is right about?

I thought I just did that. You would think that the assasination of Robert Kennedy was an example of Muslim terrorism, right? Wrong. Sirhan Sirhan was a Christian Palestinian nationalist - unless, of course, he was a mind-controlled CIA dupe - which is a distinct possibility if you ask me.

I believe Abu's response to your query was a legal "rules of engagement" answer - something the US's unlawful combattant legislation and rendition program is a little unclear about.

Perhaps you should quote him. You seem a bit confused about what is going on here. I don't think I have brought up the issue of the treatment of women in Islam at all in this thread, and the discussion about nationalism was with another member. I am not going to go searching for this mythical nugget of rationalism you are attributing to Abu.

You could be right, FD. I might have it confused with another thread.

Isn't it a sad state of affairs when we have a maggot like this abu living off the hard work of our countries men/women and at the same time  supports the enemy. Very sad indeed.

Australia is supposedly a land of free speech, so you should find it refreshing that I am able to hold independent views like this, and a good sign that free speech is still intact, no?

Unlike Muslim countries:

The most dangerous places to be a Christian are overwhelmingly Muslim. How is that possible if Islam is a 'religion of peace'?
Peace of the grave?

Estragon: I can’t go on like this.
