This is what AWU do to their honest people. Not only did this guy get bashed for questioning what was going on, it took 9 years to pay him what he was entitled. Guess who has fingers in the pie on handling this 9 year wait.
The AWU Scandal - the union takes 9 years to pay Bob Kernohan his entitlements
As you have heard for yourself - Bob Kernohan is a decent and principled man.
During the latter part of 1996 and into 1997 the cover-up was being put in place after The AWU Scandal.
Bob Kernohan couldn't believe what he was hearing. There was no action taken to get money back from Wilson, no police charges, no Royal Commission. Nothing.
Ian Cambridge was appointed an Industrial Commissioner in NSW and was therefore unable to continue his pursuit of the money. Bob didn't have too many friends in the AWU. As you will hear in Bob's videom interview today, even Bill Shorten, Bob's protege was sniffing the breeze and
picking winners.
Ultimately Shorten abandoned Bob.
I can imagine how unpleasant it must have been to go in to work every day.
So Bob left the union on 30 June, 1997.
And the friends of the working man, the AWU hierachy, put him through the wringer for the next 9 years to get his entitlements.
Nicola Roxon's signature is on some correspondence from the union's lawyers Maurice Blackburn putting Bob through hoops to get what was his. And Shorten didn't lift a finger to help his old mate.
That is until, as Bob explains it, Bob Kernohan ran into Bill Shorten in the street when Bill was preparing for his campaign to enter the Federal Parliament. Bob's claim, after 9 years, would finally receive attention.
Bob has asked me to publish this letter that describes his entitlements. His official termination date was 30 June, 1997. 9 years and 7 days later they paid up.
Disgraceful.
