Douche, I never claimed the ABC in its entirety ought to be stripped of funding, only shows like QandA that have an obvious agenda.

So obvious that all the complaints have failed the test:

We started with the biased panel claim - posting a few panels shows that incorrect.

Then we had the claim that the audience was the problem? The people watching the show? WHAT!

Followed by the program topics: again not supported by the list of topics discussed.

Now we have its the topics not discussed???????  WOW now I am disgusted – shut down the ABC immediately.

If we did not have the ABC we would be left with no credible news channel what so ever.....We have already lost the commercial media to vested interests…..Could you imagine an Australia with only News Ltd and a Singleton / Rinehart Fairfax media empire to present us with our news…..The public interest will always be served by having a public broadcaster that is adequately funded and scrutinised by an independent 3rd party…..The ABC provides a service commercial stations do not provide especially for young children…..Having diversity in the media can only be a good thing!!!

Smiley Smiley Smiley

This old hat: The media moguls are blinding every one to the brilliance of the ABC!

The very fact that Murdoch's media is economically successful is because people buy it. This means that it must have content that appeals to many people. If trendy left wing agendas were so popular then they wouldn't need to be propped up artificially by millions of tax-payer's dollars.

What a stupid comment.....The ABC does not advertise so it must be funded by taxpayers.....The ABC was the only television we could get when I was living in the NW and it provides a very valuable service to remote people.....Worrying about a few shows that may have perceived political bias is typical of the rabid right.....It is not all about you is it???

Angry Angry Angry

Douche, I never claimed the ABC in its entirety ought to be stripped of funding, only shows like QandA that have an obvious agenda.

Yet you would consider the Bolt report to be a fairly balanced program.....Having no alternative views is not in the best interests on the nation.....Australia needs a diverse media or it will risk going the way of America where Fox News distorts the truth and peddles bullshit to the masses....Having all the media owned by wankers like Murdoch is not good for anyone and would destroy our democracy!!!

Bolt isn't balanced, and he doesn't pretend to be. Most importantly, he's not on the public teat.
Murdoch's "empire" only exists because people freely purchase his goods. No one forces people to buy his stuff, yet they still do. He obviously, then, provides a service good enough that people are willing to pay for it.

He strongly pushes the owners political view and beliefs into the community, sometimes it isn't about direct profit.

If people are gullible enough to believe it, then all the more power to him.
The onus is on the consumer to resist it.
A bit of critical thinking and self-discipline doesn't hurt.

So it's okay to be lazy, untruthful, unbalanced and biased so long as you don't work for the state.

In Queensland there is no choice. It's Murdoch scandal sheets or nothing.

If the people believe Bolt's lazy and unbalanced, then he'll fall as market forces dictate. But people like what he says, so they still buy it.

90% of peoples belief in Market forces are rubbish.

The market dictates a lot less mostly people in power use it as an excuse to make the choices they wish to make for other non related reasons.

Yet when people watch the ABC critical thinking and self-discipline do not count.....The viewer must not be exposed to any left leaning ideology.....Like it does not exist or need an avenue to balance the commercial media that has been taken over by vested interests.....Lets not forget the Coalition also control the ABC when in power and stack the board with their mates.....Having more diverse views and alternate comment is a valid point.....However I feel the ABC certainly has enough right leaning commentators for my liking!!!

They aren't rubbish. If no one buys Murdoch's goods, then he goes bankrupt. Moreover, if people cease buying goods altogether, you won't have any tax payer's dollars to support the ABC. Those trendies won't work for free.

Seriously, these cities are?
