In Australia these methods are deliberately used to drive public opinion and it is very effective.

Adelaide and Brisbane. I'm not sure about Perth, Darwin and Hobart.

I could be wrong, but the only cities I can think of with competing Fairfax dailies are Sydney and Melbourne.
