Great posts, perceptions, if I may, very perceptive. The worst thing is, it all made sense.

Well, I agree, the climate issue certainly has the capacity, TO BE A GAME CHANGER!

I don't see the debt being a catastrophic problem in the short run. The solution is more likely to create immediate economic problems. What sort of time frame are you looking at?

Well, unfortunately, I doubt there are any feasible solutions?

There are certainly none that fit into the Politicians ideal of Exponential Growth, which is why I ended with "and to all of you I say, watch the Debt, Grow".

The Pollies will just continue to try to fix the status quo, which will result in Debt continuing to rise, until one day, when the load becomes too much for that poor old camels back & the system will come crashing down.

Ah, the $1,064 Trillion question!
The short & only honest answer is, I DON'T KNOW!

There are simply far too many Rumsfeld unknowns & unknowables!

However, I expect that we will see some very serious action start, between now & the end of 2014.

Or, was that your initial intention AND you somehow collected a couple of "Innocent bystanders"?

Which is the greedy generation?

You may find that, ain't necessarily so?

It may be case that this is becoming the more responsible generation.
More than a few years ago, I was harping on about the Chinese "junk boats" swarming our ports.

The value then seemed too good to pass up and people were buying incessantly. Until, that is, the junk was realised to be more of a hindrance than anything else.

Now there are second thoughts before buying another TV, blue ray player, coffee maker..etc.
The enviromentally responsible might see the junk items as a needless addition to global warming, others may now see them as just another future item to be dumped on the doorstep of the Salvos to avoid the ever escalating tip fees.

Whatever the case, the natural progression is a consumer demand to condense items and to buy less, less often than we have been.
I don't see this as a bad thing at all, but obviously the economy will "suffer", for want of a better word.

For mine, there's no other option than for governments to do what any normal person is expected to do and to budget within their means.

If this causes a further downturn, then that's the way it is. There should be more gains to come in various other areas of efficiency to help offset this, but hopefully the days of hypnotic consumerism are coming to end and simplification becomes the order of the day.i

No need, I'm not dumb enough to play near the edge ...

I would suggest cliff represents a fall .... what percentage of idiots to fall of cliffs actually die?  ..

As I said Andrei, "I wish you all Good Luck and to all of you I say, watch the Debt, Grow!"

Given the lack of action/s taken to reign in Debt, it now appears certain that US Debt will continue to rise at $1 Trillion or more annually, on the pretext that it will spike Growth, which will not happen.

So, at some point, that last hair will come, it will break the camels back (the global Economic/currency system) & the Economic house of cards will come crashing down!

I suspect, there won't be much celebrating good news, at that point, nor for quite some time after!

Anyway, I wish you all Good Luck and to all of you I say, watch the Debt, Grow!

I love the words used by alarmists

Fiscal CLIFF

Cliff represents death

Facts are the sun will come up on Wednesday US time.

Even if they went over this cliff - they will survive

The same wordsmiths use terms like

(1) Climate Change DENIERS
(2) Peak Oil
(3) Racist

to describe a situation that is irrelevant to the words used

IF you don't like the term "Fiscal Cliff", I suggest you take it up with Ben Bernanke -
"In late February 2012, Ben Bernanke, chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve, popularized the term "fiscal cliff" for the impending 2012 fiscal crisis. Before the House Financial Services Committee he described that "a massive fiscal cliff of large spending cuts and tax increases" would take place on January 1, 2013."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_fiscal_cliff

As for "the Facts", the Economic Facts are as I have written, should you care to debate the merits of my interpretations, go ahead, make my day!

That said, whether the sun rises or not, is irrelevant to those facts.

Btw, Yes, people will survive, BUT it is likely that we will all be losers, on the Economic well being front!

I would agree, all those words seem fairly accurate for their intended use!

So Maqqa, you decided not to, go ahead & make my day.

Good decision!

Can we all have a bit of a round of applause for the Republican Party whose bargaining saw my income band escape the tax rises proposed?

I am ok with increasing taxes on the wealthy - but not the middle.

A good deal for America, a good deal for American families, a good deal for the western world.

Well done the GOP.
