Bobby, have you ever been to a Christian service? I went to many different denominations when I was church shopping and I can testify that a good percentage of the sermon is spent talking about the devil, satan, lucifer whatever you want to call it. He is the arch enemy of Christians, always trying to heckle them into sin. Satan is discussed almost as much as God or Jesus. I can't say that I blame him for paying out on them though, he gets the blame for everything that goes wrong, poor bugger.

Church is not always an uplifting experience, there's an awful lot of threats to deal with, if not from the good book, from the preacher himself.

Yes - I went to an Anglican christening once for a little baby - a niece.

I was put off when the priest told us how lucky the baby was to be christened because
otherwise it would go to hell.

That put me off straight away.

To me - the church is a relic of the dark ages & should be discarded.

perhaps you should do what a proper thinker would do and actually consider the relative claims and merits and seek truth rather than comfortable ignorance.

It's ok longy, the whole experience turned me back to an Agnostic, where I'm happy to be myself.

All men and women are destined to be corrupted by their interaction with this world, imo.

At least people who are seeking God/attending church, are showing a degree of remorse for their error.

The churches stuck it in the bank vault instead of passing it on to desperate needy people. In the end the greedy churches lost it all and the needy still went without. That's complete bullshit. People go to churches because the church institutions have brain washed people at a young age to attend the church in order to indoctrinate them later on in life to donate money to them when they are of a working age !! It's all part of the scam Sad

There is no need to attend a church gathering in order to read one old book. That can be done at home in privacy and donations can be made to more efficient charitable organizations who don't waste a lot of it on pomp and pageantry as well as useless investments that deprive the needy of desperately needed funds !!

And the bible also DOES counsel us to be provident [provide] for the future.

Read the Old Testament story of Joseph, and Pharaohs dream about the 7 kine [cows]. Genesis 41:17

And what was Joseph's interpretation of the dream, and advice ?

The dream represented the coming of 7 full years of harvest, and 7 lean years of harvest.

Joseph advised Pharaoh to build granaries to hold [to 'hoard'] the grain from the 7 full years, to feed the people in the 7 lean years.

But imo, where men are, the devil can be also.

And, even in churches, imo.

God is a spirit, and the devil is a spirit being too.

If i step outside on a sunny day and look up, i can not see all of the stars in the sky.

But that does not mean, that i believe that there are no stars in the sky, above my head.
