it is a complex book and treating it simplistically will always get the wrong result. The book is the story of God's relationship with man and Jesus the central theme. Failure to understand  or accept the relevence does not mean it is irrelevant. Leviticus for instance is the 'shadow' version of the 'substance' as demonstrated in Hebrews. once again it is the parallel development of Gods plan that shines thru. But you wont get it from a mere cursory reading.

why would your god write a complex book that he wanted everyone to read without any issues ?

Here's the truth.

Quote:
THE TRUE FACE OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC INQUISITION --
ROTTEN SPIRITUAL FRUIT FROM THE ABYSS OF HELL

few people know specific details of this murderous campaign that lasted over 1,200 years, killing 75 million people. But, once you understand the unprecedented horrors of the Inquisition, you will never look at Roman Catholicism the same way again.

Warning - not suitable for children or those faint of heart.

75 million?! That can't be right. The link doesn't contain any documented evidence for that figure. The figures I've seen vary from a few thousand to 150,000.

75 million over 1,200 years means 62,500 a year, which means 175 killed a day. Is there any evidence for this?

I don't know for sure - maybe no one does.
I've heard all sorts of different figures but they have always been large.
The Inquisition was no small matter.

Well, reputable historians, put the number at between 31,000 and 125,000...(although a lot of the 125,000 are reported to have died in prison, from poor conditions rather than execution).

The figures I've found show that execution rates were between 2% and 10% of people investigated..

Reputable historians? I notice you didnt provide any links to these ppl. . . .

Robert,
Would you say the same about someone who identifies as being a Nazi?

Yep.  There's only one thing that makes one a mass murderer - killing heaps of people.

Hi Robert,
so you are not concerned about the rise of Catholics & you
wouldn't be concerned about the rise once more of Nazis?

My claim is that they are both failed doctrines which led to the death & torture of millions of people.
We accept Catholics but not Nazis - go figure?

the RISE of catholics?  Oh boy - you're only a millennium out of date...

and I'd actually welcome a rise in nazis - it'd certainyl help to separate the fact from the fiction. The whole nazi image is too "cartoon super-villain-ish" to be real, and besides, it couldn't be worse than the differnt brand of fascism we live under anyway.

You must be very young. Havent seen any wars either. The nazis were patriots.

Language tends to change over the course of 2000 years.  Even books  written 100 years ago have a noticeably different style than modern books.

Longy,
That's just weasel words from an apologist for the atrocities in the Bible.
Leviticus still stands as the Law.

see... thats the difference between a scholar and someone like yourself who endlessly parrots verses out of context. I actually know what the bible is saying. It is not dissimilar to you thinking youare an author because you can quote words out of a dictionary.

the nazis were 'patriots'.. ? ?? what borg??

what does that have to do with fvking anything you clod?

on christianity:

" "Pure Christianity--the Christianity of the catacombs--is concerned with translating the Christian doctrine into facts. It leads quite simply to the annihilation of mankind. It is merely whole-hearted Bolshevism, under a tinsel of metaphysics." ~ Adolf Hitler

could not have said it better.

christianity, like all jewish spawned offshoots is a brain disease, and its preposterous egalitarian, universalistic strain of thinking is now in the employ of our greatest liberal enemies. whatever utility it may have had in the past is now long gone, and its turgid, toxic ,mind numbing scriptures, which are replete with contradition and lies deserve relegation to the waste basket of history.

"Our epoch will certainly see the end of the disease of Christianity."

But an all-knowing or omniscient god would write in a style that was universal and timeless. Obviously the bible was written by mere mortals with limited intelligence and language simply because god is imaginary and god never wrote a book !

copying and pasting something from new scientist doesn't mean that you understand it either. The mere fact that you believe in fairy tales from an old book makes it hard to believe that you have any science education at all.
