UN Security seat
Jan 8th, 2013 at 9:16am

We have now officially set ourselves up for terrorist attacks. We have, in effect written an open invitation to the Taliban and other terrorist organisations to pay us a visit.

Ok, so we used to be pretty well far removed from the horror that other nations live with on a daily basis, not now!

What will be the first to go?

The harbour bridge?

The Opera House?

Parliament House  Undecided (that could be a good thing)

A crowded train taking children to school?

I suppose some people are happy, I can't imagine why.

AUSTRALIA TO OVERSEE TALIBAN, IRAN SANCTIONS

Australia has been appointed to chair the UN Security Council committees overseeing the international sanctions regimes against Al Qaeda, the Taliban, and Iran.

Foreign Minister Bob Carr says the role, which comes after Australia won a seat on the Security Council last year, is a reflection of Australia's diplomatic standing on the world stage.

Australia will also be vice-chair for the sanctions committees on the Sudan, the Ivory Coast and Lebanon.

"This is a vote of confidence in Australia," Senator Carr said.

"It shows that the Security Council, including particularly its five permanent members, have got a fair bit of confidence in Australia's diplomatic pull, and in particular in the area of anti-terrorism.

"Our role on the committee will be to determine which individuals or entities are subject to Al Qaeda or Taliban sanctions.

There's NOTHING leftie about this lot. The Labor Party used to be left, looking after the average workers ie labourers. It's time they changed their name, the only labourers around now are pregnant women giving birth, unless you call selling mobile phone plans hard work.

I don't think they even consider themselves left now, if they do they're delusional.

was having a go at you pansi...I can tell you are disillusioned...

I guess its what we call the world is changing????

the problem is... is it for the better?

do you think we have stuck our heads up.???

you know the more we want to be on the world stage the more responsibility we have to take..

we spent zillions on getting this seat.... and people like carr will want to be centre stage..

personally I think the UN is a toothless tiger and just a place for useless egos..

expensive ones alas..

however if it means we put ourselves in  the spotlight for other egomaniacs..[Al Qaeda]
to take a potshot at...shouldnt we have some say in that?

Well said, its rather like you've arrived late at a party you didn't want to go to and everyone has left except for the desperate alchoholics scouring the room for more grog.
