How much will the nbn really cost?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Broadband_Network

The Rudd Government estimated to the total cost of the project initially to be A$43 billion. NBN Co later revised down the cost in its business plan to A$35.9 billion.[37] The project is to be financed by a combination of a Federal Government investment of A$27.5 billion and private investment for the remainder.[37]
NBN Co intends to begin paying dividends back to the Federal Government in 2020, and to have fully repaid the Government's contribution by 2034.[38] NBN Co's business plan forecasts a return on investment of 7 per cent, expecting to turn over revenue of A$5.8 billion by 2021.[39]

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/in-depth/nbn-return-to-be-lower-than-in-commercial-plan-business-plan-shows/story-e6frgaif-1225973839279

THE National Broadband Network business case proves taxpayers' $27.5 billion investment in the plan will be repaid with interest, Julia Gillard has declared.

The NBN Co business plan, released today, estimates households could pay between $53 and $58 a month for a basic internet services with speeds of 12 megabits per second.

According to the 400-page business case, NBN Co forecasts an annual revenue of $5.8 billion by 2021.

So we have $5.8 billion in revenue (per year) for the nbn.

How much will the coalitions fttn plan bring in per year?

That's right - there is no costed policy.

The logic of rolling out a project to sparsely populated countryside areas which have the longest payback present value is what?

Rolling out to densely populated capital cities would make most sense.
The non city areas makes no economic case.

The project has to pay for itself and it will lose money rolling out to everyone.

I would have a 2 tier system.
The optimum speed rollout to capital cities and then the rural areas at a later timeframe bit by bit.

Much more budget friendly.

You obviously dont get that its "infrastructure". It will be in place when things change and grow. If you dont include the rural areas they will not ever grow and will in fact prolly die off.

Only a fool will accept the NBN cost as reasonable. If there are 5 million end users, it means it cost each user 8000 dollars. That's the cost to setup a connection from your computer. How much does your computer cost? 1000 for a Mac Air.
Just can not understand how this can be.
Thanks for the nation's math idiot education.

'Cost' is irrelevant. Think 'benefit' instead.

The benefits will far outweigh any 'costs'.

People need to get real, and move into the 21st century.

Not one complaint against the NBN is based on fact. Not one!
