I thought you were an "expert" on the NBN, I didn't until now realise you were just another Labor hack with a barrow to push.

If you'd bothered to check you'd find out he is actually a fireman. Therefore closing firestations is an issue that affects him. If you were anything other than a 'liberal hack on an agenda' you'd understand that most people have more than one interest.

I don't give a damn if he is a fireman. I am quite sure O'Farrell would not be indiscriminately endangering public safety.

just like kennett was indiscriminately closing down public schools in VIC back in the 90s. Unfortuantely hadrian, when it comes to these issues party politics plays a massive role. To think otherwise is quite naive.

I never realised there were so many fire stations around, sh#t no wonder he's getting rid of some, thats ridiculous, so many firemen, so few fires, I bet the firemen wish they wren't at the forefront of introducing so many fire prevention policies now  Grin

Might have to do what the CFS volunteers do and break out the matches  Grin

And you couldn't say that without playing the party hack? why not? was it difficult for you? You had to attack the messenger instead?

It's not indiscriminate, all the stations that close are in labor territory ..... Let hope the close the station near your place, then lets see how sure you are.

Anything Jeff Kennett did would have been done with due concern for the public good, including of course the the public good of repairing financial damage done by the Labor party.
Unfortunately for the dependants on the public purse, we shalle have to go through a similar process under PM Abbott in order to forstall this country sliding into a Spanish or Greek style recession.

Yes, that's why he was kicked out for the main reason that he was an egotistical maniac who didn't put public concern ahead of his own love of himself.

Oh and PS: For those dependents you speak off, are you talking about those wanting their baby bonus?

Fire station locations aren't so much about the number of fires, as the time it would take to reach a given location. The official objective is to attend 90% of fire calls within 10 minutes of the time of call.

When you close stations you extend response times, because the next nearest station must cover that area. More dangerously, if the next nearest station is already committed, then the response time to an area could easily blow out to 20 minutes or more, because stations are generally placed about 6-7 minutes drive time apart.

For example, looking at the map above, let's say there was a Automatic Fire Alarm (AFA) activate in Parramatta (that's station 27). That would typically happen 3 or 4 times each day, and requires a 2-station response. So that would take 27 and 57 off line. But, the nearby stations of 65, 66, 67 and 72 were already offline. I don't know if you're familiar with Sydney, but that leaves a gap all the way from Seven Hills (43) through to Silverwater (19). Should there have been another firecall in North Parramatta at that time, it would have taken the nearest fire engine a good 20-25 minutes to arrive. Can you imagine the potential consequences of such a delay?
