As I said Longo..one of the bequests is to a beneficial group Kids off the Streets...based in Sydney, but I first came across them in a op-shop in country Vic/...
Father Reilly I believe ,, been a while... but ... in any case... it was the cause, not the provider that was the reason. I actually had to tussle with myself a bit, cos I don't approve of church institutions... but this seemed different.
Inlight of the recent bad press .. I might have to resort to google or Bing to check it out more thoroughly.
The rest are definitely NOT church run... perhaps you need to widen your view a bit, if you really believe most npo's and charities are church-based. That is not necessarily so..
you can believe it or not. or research it. But you might be very very surprised to find that the vast majority of charitable organisations are church run or church initiated. Are you even aware that schooling for anyone but the elite was a church initiative? Or the age of consent (firstly a mere 10yo) - brought in by pressure of Christians and opposed by the atheists of the time.
Slavery... ended by pressure from Christians.
Social welfare - started by the church and still to a large degree delivered by it.
if you want to give to an organisation with no Church affiliation past or present, you may find it harder than you think.
Just something to consider when you next feel the need to berate the church over its failings. perhaps its failings exceed the atheist's contribution by a significant margin?
