In 1993, Labor had 78 seats - a majority. This year, they have to actually win seats to win government.

You know the truth as well LW didn't you say you worked in banks back then?
Home loan rates where fixed at 13.5 BUT the bank wouldn't lend the full amount needed after your 10% or even 20% deposit most banks would only lend at around 50% of the required capital after the deposit. SO nearly all home buyers had to get bridging finance from a finance company for the remainder at a whopping 21%
Anybody who says different doesn't know what they are talking about.

You are technically correct however where you are wrong is that banks would not loan money at the Howard capped rate as mentioned but not only that the 17% in Keating's time only applied to new loans - existing bank loans were capped at 11%.

To get a 17% loan you had to apply for a 17% loan and they were only at that point for a year or two before falling dramatically.

The howard problem with interest rates was solved by replacing the Fraser government.
