The apology didn't go well for Abbott

Not sure what he said - but he was heckled from the crowd

But he quickly retracted what he said

Lets see what the media says

Lets see how Labor will use this

Apparently he used the words "birth mothers"

Some in the crowd said "We are real mothers - not birth mothers"

This whole apology business has got beyond a joke. Who will we be apologising to next . . .the Chinese who were insulted during the gold rush?

This apology does not take into account the feelings of the thousands of adoptive parents who thought they were doing the right thing by kids they adopted. Now they are being almost criminalised.

Yes, the apology thing is out of control. It's a disease and a cancer.
Strong cultures do not apologise. It's the sign of a decaying and declining culture.

if pollies are always having to apologise for something that inadvertently say which offends someone then we will end up with pollies who when they speak, say nothing of consequence, funny, but thats pretty much EXACTLY what we have now. they say nothing of value because to attempt to comunicate value risks offending someone.

its pathetic.

There was a Chinese massacre during the gold rush

Quote:
http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Racism_in_Australia

The Lambing Flat massacre (or Lambing Flat riots), were a series of violent anti-Chinese demonstrations that took place in the Burrangong region, in New South Wales, Australia. They occurred on the goldfields at Spring Creek, Stoney Creek, Back Creek, Wombat, Blackguard Gully, Tipperary Gully, and Lambing Flat, between 1860 - 1861. Many unarmed Chinese miners were beaten to death or chased off the goldfield, with their possession looted by the mobs and their houses set on fire.

Later in 1861, the Chinese Immigration Regulation Act passed the New South Wales Parliament, which prohibited the naturalisation of Chinese citizens in the state.

Yeah, I agree with that summation.
No politician is game to project any kind of future because it might offend someone. Pathetic indeed.

Totally agree with the apology bit however will differ on who should take majority share of the blame although its a close 60/40.

60% media- the faux outrage on the slightest thing these days which they then blow out of any sort of proportion just to get a headline.
40% Us - for being sheep & just reading the media's headlines & believing without questioning let alone gathering all facts.

i think it is unfair to blame the media for this. they might publish it, but we createthe garbage of making inferences out of any misspoken word or assuming offence by a careless comment. we dissect every written or spoken word looking for a hidden agenda or a unstated bias and then wonder why pollies comments are so sanitised that they say nothing of consequence.

I'm talking about the apology itself.

This crap about requiring it to be able to heal is garbage.

This government, for that matter any government after about 75 have nothing to do with these decisions so shouldn't have to say squat.

You need an apology, fine hunt down those actually responsible.

This rehashing of past wrongs is the disease that afflicts Europe & the Middle East, bitching & moaning about poo that happened, sometimes 100's of years ago.

Build a bridge, move on Angry

Tony Abbott called the mothers whose children the Atheist Government forcibly abducted "Birth Mothers"...very dystopian of him...sounded like something out of Aldous Huxleys Brave New World...we must condemn the evil of  Government Atheism and all it represents...we condemn Tony Abbott on the right...we condemn Julia Gillard on the left for their totalitarian state atheism and cruelty... Cool
