So tell me what you can't achieve now under the current system that you can achieve under the NBN.

Duh...and while you're at it, tell me what the latest mercedes can do that a donkey and cart can't.

So you are saying that the NBN will reduce the time you can get a degree?

Geez Maqqa..you obviously dont have kids in school, ever owned a business or been to uni if you think bringing our communications up to a modern standard is a waste of time.

i run a business that does all its marketing and presence on the web. The NBN gives me no advantage at all. None whatsoever. my website is already fast and 20,000 emails will go the same speed they always did - not that 10 times the speed would make any difference.

And I have had kids at school and some and university and ADSL has managed to download and submit assingments quite fine. Downloanding/streaming lectures manages to work quite well too and that is on WIRELESS at times.

so tell me again what the NBN will do that ADSL cant.

The left can't answer this question because to answer it means they have to acknowledge they've been sold a pup from their esteemed leader

Communicate what to whom?

Got kid in school, tell me WTF broadband will do to help educate her, that education can not do now? Or did in the the dam past for that matter.

This is another nail in the coffin. Extravagant waste of money.

hey bleeding heart drongo, my needs are TYPICAL - hence the use of my situation. no one (and i do mean no one) is the least bit against providing broadband where it currently does not exist. But buggered if the rest of us feel like spending an absolute fortune to have little more than we have right now. and in my case i get NOTHING. i get 12mbps internet and a home phone - which i already have. 100Mbps is of limited value to most people and those that really need it should pay for it or at least a portion of it.

If you lot are so happy with your existing internet, you'll obviously be sticking with it so what's it matter if it's running behind some arbitrary schedule?  It's getting built as we speak - sitting there yapping isn't gonna get it finished any faster.

What does it matter?

(1) Under the LIBs' proposal we would have got faster broadband by now

(2) The original $4.7B that Labor costed is blowing out to $78B

(3) By the time we get this - it will would 2023

1.  ha!  Yeah right...These things don't build themselves you know.  Anyways, even if you believe libera;ls false promises,  labor is in government so it's irrelevant. Besides, you don't want or need faster internet, remember?

2.  yeah, it's shithouse accounting but what do you expect from pollies?  Still, the differences in price don't negate the quality or necessity of delivering the service.

3.  Yep, well labor shouldn't have made such grand gestures, but it's the same deal as point 2.  Pollies always overpromise and under deliver - does it still surprise you?

But why does it matter to you anyway? you don't want or need faster internet.

face a few facts. the coalition is coming to power big time and FTTN will be the network you get. so stop yapping and accept the inevitable. at least THIS NBN might get built before you die.

Contracts were already signed and work started

2.  yeah, it's shithouse accounting but what do you expect from pollies?  Still, the differences in price don't negate the quality or necessity of delivering the service.
So if it's Labor's numbers then you blame it on "pollies" in general

Quote:
INDONESIA is negotiating to buy key satellite broadcasting slots covering Australia in a move that would be highly embarrassing for the federal government and a big setback in the rollout of its National Broadband Network.

It would also be a major blow to the embattled Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy, who has been tenaciously driving the NBN policy, including enthusiastically endorsing the decision by the national broadband company to build and launch two of its own satellites at a cost of about $1 billion. The negotiations, which are believed to be at an advanced stage, are understood to have the support of the US government to enhance its relationship with Indonesia.

Doesn't matter to me, the infrastructure is mostly the same.  Putting the brakes on now is only going to further drag out the inevitable.

In 2007 they promised it by 2010. Now it will blowout to 2023

Cost blowout
In 2007 they promised it would cost $4.7B. Now it will cost $78B?

Now you're deliberately lying ... you know as well as i do (because it has been pointed out to you several times) that the propsal put forward in 2007 and the proposal they decided to eventually run with are completely different ...

you know you've already lost an argument if you have to resort to lying .
