Even if this worst case scenario was true, you should be thankful you're getting it at all.  It's nice to get something I can actually use for my tax dollars instead of just more ivory back scarcthers and new cars for pollies.

only a lefty would see any good in a cost blowout and time delays

If you lot are so happy with your existing internet, you'll obviously be sticking with it so what's it matter if it's running behind some arbitrary schedule?  It's getting built as we speak - sitting there yapping isn't gonna get it finished any faster.

face a few facts. the coalition is coming to power big time and FTTN will be the network you get. so stop yapping and accept the inevitable. at least THIS NBN might get built before you die.

Doesn't matter to me, the infrastructure is mostly the same.  Putting the brakes on now is only going to further drag out the inevitable.

that doesnt even make sense. FTTN is less than half the cost and doesnt involve the tedious and slow work of connecting each house in the country. FTTN also permits people who actually want or need FTTH to get it - if they pay for it. And therein lies the real problem. You lot all want fibre to your homes but for 'other people' to pay for it.  nothing new there...

Isn't infrastructure the very thing taxes are supposed to be used for?  Why act like it's coming straight out of your pocket?

oh youve got to look at wayne swans sneaky treatment of the nbn. by setting up nbn co  as a company,  wayne hasnt allowed ANY tax dollars to be set aside to fund it. its all off the budgets books. nbn co is supposed to be self funding, the take up from consumers is SUPPOSED to fund the whole thing, according to"the worlds greatest tresurer" Wink Wink

question.

do you think the worlds greatest tresurer might be telling porky pies and the taxpayer is going to end up covering the cost? Wink Wink

i'd say the odds (based on current very slow rollout, cost blow outs and poor uptake) are looking fairly high Wink Wink

blind freddy could see how much its going to cost to get all those suburban streets ripped up and the army of blokes leaning on shovels , chatting to the neighbours and sipping their pauls ice breakas all day.

i dont mind infrastructure but lets not pretend the taxpayer wont be coughing up for it.

I have no doubt he is being very sneaky.  Regardless, I pay thousands upon thousands of tax $$$ every damn year and get precisely bugger all in return.
Since I'm not going to get any excess tax refunded if they don't spend it, I want them to spend it on something I can use.  It's about time I got something for my money.

because the money spent on the NBN's unnecessary infrastructure is money NOT spent on other things.

Yeah why waste money on vital infrastructure when it can be spent on schools in Indonesia, temporary and worthless UN positions or a brand new fleet of cars for high level paper pushers?  Farcanal - they've been throwing money every which way but my way for years - if they're not spending it on this, they'll just piss it against the wall.  At least this way we get something useful out of it.

Besides, who else but the government should pay for infratsructure?  That's kinda what they're there for...

As usual, the aussie waste isn't surprising.
