Last time anyone looked - the polls has Abbott in front of the PM when asked about the preferred PM. Rudd was not part of that equation

Actually that's not true, the last polls had Gillard back in front by a fair margin. Now if someone as buggered as her is preffered over phony tony he must be a dead sh it. I don't intend to vote at all in the election, while I vote Greens I would have to preference one of the majors, and Labor do not deserve my preference. As for the Libs under Abbott I will not be a part in installing a total  nut case as PM. You wankers that support this prick are going to have to take every bit of the blame for the women basher becoming PM.

The latest  Nielsen poll offers little hope for Ms Gillard and her government, with Labor's primary vote at 31 per cent.

The Tony Abbott-led coalition remains steady on 47 per cent, less than six months out from the September 14 election.

The two-party preferred split has the government on 44 per cent and the opposition at 56 per cent - a six per cent swing to the coalition from the 50-50 result in 2010 and a landslide victory if carried through to election day.

The telephone survey of 1400 people taken last week shows Opposition Leader Tony Abbott is now preferred prime minister by 49 per cent of voters against Ms Gillard's 43 per cent - down two points.

Voters also prefer a Kevin Rudd-led Labor Party by two to one, with 62 per cent opting for Mr Rudd against Ms Gillard's 31 per cent.

But Ms Gillard has dismissed any prospect of being "tapped on the shoulder'' by senior ministers, saying it was much speculated on but "just won't happen''

I agree with skippy on this subject.

I think the election was effectively this week.

If Rudd was leader he'd carry a lot of Queensland which will now go Coalition, he'd turn a few marginal NSW ones which will go Coalition now and I think he'd get up.

You had a guy like Crean, a decent guy, who saw this and tried to make that change.

Unfortunately you had people, such is their hatred of Rudd, refuse to budge, stay with a leader who cannot connect with people for live nor money, and they'll be decimated at the election.

I think -
Abbott would beat Gillard
Rudd would beat Abbott
Turnbull would beat either Rudd or Gillard.

We're gonna get option 1.

Abbott will be PM. The question left is how much if the furniture can the ALP save?
Not much I reckon.

Let's see how Abbott copes now that Gillard doesn't have one hand tied behind her back.

Your ability to try and see a positive in this weeks farce is nice but I feel a tad delusional.
It wouldn't matter what she does people have stopped listening and are biding their time until the election.

I don't under any circumstances want an Abbott PM and am highly skeptical of the line "they cant be any worse" but unfortunately Labor have destroyed any chance with this weeks sideshow. Angry

Without Crean flushing Rudd out, the Rudd/Gillard dynamic would have sucked most of the oxygen from the election campaign. Our economy is in good shape. Inflation is low, interest rates and mortgage payments have been reduced, household savings are growing, unemployment has been pegged at below 5.5% and labour productivity is growing along with real wages. The current government has brought us through some massive external shocks in very good shape. They are not an incompetent government.

This election can be won by Gillard if she can get the debate back on policy. Burning off Rudd has come at a cost, but long run the Labor Party is in a much better position to shift the fight to winning ground.

That's ignorant at best and delusional at worst.

Labor is toxic now. They are beyond saving, the gap is colossal.

They had a chance.
It was Rudd.

They tossed it aside and they are so stupid they are dancing over the cliff with an unpopular leader.

It's all over.
Abbott is PM.

We're not lemmings.

Sorry following Gillard off of a cliff suggests the opposite.

Still a long way to go, Longy.

While many for the right seem to be ecstatic about the idea Abbott will win by default, that is not going to happen. At some point Abbott is going to have to defend his chicken little act and justify his aversion to technological progress and market based solutions.

actually he doesnt and you are completely misreading the situation. people HATE gillard and LOATHE the labor party. Abbotts biggest wildcard is not being labor or gillard. its the winning hand and everyone seems to know it. Come election time there will be policy announcements and people on here will argue furiously while joe public will care not one jot.

John Howard writes in his book that he knew he was gone 6 months before the election because the realised the people were no longer listening to him. nothing he did or didnt do matters one iota because the message didnt get across. Gillard is in the same position. no one is listening to her or anyone from labor at all. that is why nothing they do makes any difference. the polls oscillate around heavy defeat and annihilation but never get anywhere near a winnable position.

They don't really. Gillard and Labor hasn't been as bad as the media has made out, but Labor does seem to have a habit of making life very difficult for themselves.

I think it's offensive to the Australian people to blame anything on the media.

The media were pretty Rudd friendly when I voted for John Howard.

To suggest the media impact people is saying they can't think for themselves.

Labor are in this hole entirely of their own doing.

There would have at least been some hope.

For how long is anyone's guess, the Libs would have had a field day just running his own parties statements against him but his standing with joe public may well have seen that off and it would have still been a contest.
Abbott and the Libs would have had to produce policies which in turn may even have lead to a victory seeing as they are incapable of holding a position for more than 24 hrs and 1 difficult question.

However, now the only thing they will be discussing is the curtain Colour in the lodge.

And what's worse is I can see the clusterfvck of an Abbott government even being sheeted home to labor, "well if you guys hadn't been so engrossed in leadership there would have been no chance of him being elected"
Will be the bumper sticker of 2016
