Abbott to release IR policies

The federal opposition will unveil its full industrial relations policy within weeks.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott on Sunday reiterated promises to make "careful, cautious, responsible changes" to the Fair Work Act.

He says the coalition has already pledged to re-form the Australian Building and Construction Commission, set up a registered organisations commission to keep tabs on unions, and bring in laws that establish the same penalties for misbehaving union officials as for company directors.

"We will be saying more on this in weeks rather than months," he told Network Ten on Sunday.

"There will be careful, cautious, responsible changes to the Fair Work Act to address the militancy problem, the flexibility problem and above all else the productivity problem."

Mr Abbott says his party is ready for an election whether it happens on September 14 or earlier.

"We've got all our candidates in place," he said.

Last week the Nationals dumped Richard Torbay as the coalition candidate for NSW seat New England.

In the ACT, former Canberra Liberals leader Zed Seselja faces a challenge to his preselection as lead Senate candidate at a special meeting on Wednesday.

I thought he wasn't going to have an IR policy until the following election when he would seek a mandate? Waste of space.

As it turns out this is an opportunity to shackle the fat cat union bosses and limit their ability to use members' funds for brothels and expensive houses

And who would have a problem with that. Let's wait for the detail.

"What does this mean? It means that we need to do practical things that actually reduce emissions."

Employers and conservatives salivate over the word "flexibility".

To them it means work units being employed longer hours and more days for less money.

To some it is invaluable, especially when coping with inflexable production requirements.

I doubt you understand....
