You can ensure prices drop easy enough through price control mechanisms.

Of course the ACCC would have to prove any price increase after the carbon tax was due only to the carbon tax.

The whole thing will be a farce.

both you are DNA are morons

Gillard used the ACCC to stop profiteering when the carbon tax came in and you've not criticised that move

But if Abbott uses the ACCC to stop profiteering - then it's a bad idea

MORONS!!!

one was about controlling how much prices went up .... thats a completely different kettle of fish to trying to force prices go down .... it just won't happen and you know it.

Price control mechanisms? I thought you believed in a free market!

Anyway, what price control mechanisms? Legislation? An army of price inspectors? Sniffer dogs? What?

You've not respond to the fact that when Gillard ask the ACCC to monitor price then you give it your blessing but when Abbott ask the ACCC to monitor price then it's not going to work

Your only justification is "....and you know it"

So in your opinion the ACCC can only enforce prices going up but not going down  Grin Grin

You sound very confused about the powers of the ACCC. The ACCC simply doesn't have the power to enforce prices.

Why you seem to pick and choose the things you are critical of????

In this case who ever said that I had any great confidence in the ACCC and restricting prices, but the measurment does show that any profiteering has been minimal.

That is what the ACCC do - watch price increases - not price reductions (it does not happen) and it won't in this case either.

Gillard's using it now for the carbon tax

So why were you not vocal about Gillard using it to monitor profiteering under the carbon tax?

(1) I am using the ACCC as a defence for price gouging because Labor is using it as a defence. I have yet to see anyone from the left criticising Gillard using the ACCC.

(2) So the question here is - why are you attacking the system that Gillard's using?

(3) If you have not criticised Gillard for using this system then you have no credibility in attacking Abbott for using the system

This is about hypocrisy

When Gillard uses the ACCC to stamp out profiteering - you stay silent

If Abbott uses the ACCC to stamp out profiteering - you are vocal that it won't work

So is this a real discussion about the ACCC or is it an opportunity to show your bias?

If it's a real discussion then you would have done so when Gillard first used it!!!
