I would not expect anything other for you to defend the conservative position but you should be able to tell the difference between a genuine plan which failed and a load of rubbish which is just dishonest.

Do you think such a statement was sensible?

In retrospect no it wasn’t but it was what they believed at the time and what was intended.

The Magic pudding approach Abbott is committed to can not even work theoretically but you will never be critical of that approach..

So do you propose a status quo and keep borrowing bllions to pay our bills??

Somethings gotta give now I ask a striaght forward question.

Labor doesn't produce surpluses,
so where would we be in 10 years time if labor is in office for those 10 years?
how many hundreds of billions of debt would we be in???
cause ya know if we continue to run at a deficit, its only a matter of time before we are in the same class of debt as Greece is now sur ewe aren't now but what about 10 15 years time??
You have no economic accountabillity. Its just spend spend spend borrow borrow borrow, never mind the level of debt.

The level of debt is not a problem at the moment. Delivering a surplus this year would have done more harm than good.

In reaffirming Australia's AAA credit rating the international credit rating agency came to the exact opposite conclusion to you.

Quote:
Fitch also noted the Government's plan to bring the budget back to surplus had been abandoned due to the strong Australian dollar and volatile commodity prices.
But the agency took the view that the process of fiscal consolidation has slowed rather than reversed.

They believe that Labor is committed to a process of fiscal consolidation.

I notice that this fact didn't make it to the front page if the Murdoch press.

There are no miracles ahead, mate.

If Abbot wins it'll be uphill all the way to revive what that heartless bitch had cacked - even as the seemingly unimportant  sport.

Abbott will have to cut down on costs, such as departments on the scam global warming. . .

Heard about some idiots sitting at side of cows counting their burps and far*ts? Carbon emissions plus!

I was brought up on a dairy farm and can't even recall a cow burping!

Such people are being paid good money for this pastime.

That's why the country is in $300 billion deficit.

nd encourage miners and local agriculture and manufacture.

Yes, I remember that. I didn't even believe it back then.

It was too incredible to ever happen. Wayne Swan would have had to make a lot of budget cuts or hope the mining taxes would give them the revenue they needed. They put too much hope into wishful thinking. They certainly wanted to believe that. They didn't want to believe the worst case scenario. Now whatever was going to happen has happened.

The Wikipedia on Wayne Swan says Wayne Swan is "Christian." Well, he should have paid more attention in church.

Cmon people Abbott is going to deliver this country lower interest rates, accelerated growth, record investment, world class hospitals and schools, record growth in local manufacturing, price increases for our resources, energy price decreases, yearly surpluses, increased state spending, he will cure the world refugee crises and on top of all that he is going to do the lot while the rest of the world is stumbling in and out of a recession that will last at least another decade.
I for one am interested to see how he is going to increase growth while slashing interest rates and inflation all while our trading partners economies are shrinking.
Bringing down energy prices while increasing the price our big energy resource companies get for coal, gas and oil will be interesting as well.
Ive never seen a magic pudding so Im looking forward to laying my eyes on one for the first time  Cheesy
Along with most of the countries independent economists Im predicting a worldwide credit crash next year so Abbotts magic pudding will come in very handy  Grin

Doubling our exports to China of coal, and the
re-introduction of uranium mining will certainly give Abbott his magic pudding to achieve most of the above.

Lets not forget the Howard Government promised more spending and the Coalition proposed tax cuts instead of one off stimulus to combat the GFC.....Both measures would have pushed the budget further into debt with less capacity to raise revenue.....It was the Howard tax cuts that put the budget into structural deficit in the first place!!!

Over time, however, the revenue surge and the discharge of government debt saw Howard emerge in another guise - as a big spending conservative. This spending was financed by an overall increase in the taxation burden. The long-run trend in Australia's tax/GDP ratio is upwards and Peter Costello is Australia's highest taxing treasurer.

In a recent analysis former treasury officer and fellow at the Centre for Independent Studies, Robert Carling, after adjusting the numbers to take account of the changed arrangements flowing from the GST, finds that tax revenue for the Commonwealth's own purposes has risen by 1.5 percentage points to 20.5 per cent of GDP over the 11 years of Howard's Government. He also finds that the Howard/Costello turnaround from budget deficit to surplus over 11 years has been achieved more by raising revenue than by reducing spending10.
