I would rather see bravery awards for the single & abused mums who are forced to sleep in cars with their kids, while this other trash gets acommodation, welfare and furnishings lavished on them.

it's yet another self loathing aspect of the left.

reward illegals, what rot.

If Jon Stanhope wants to hand out bravery awards, he might start with the brave firemen who had to battle the burning down of Canberra.
I wonder what he was doing while the threat was building up?
I wonder who held up the crews from NSW getting into the fire area to attempt to stop the catastrophe?

Yes adelcrow, I WOULd rather hand out awards to the abused and deserted women who struggle in this society instead of the human flotsam & jettsom who are never likely to assimilate to this society, who start being a burden before they even freakin' land here and will likely, probably like yourself, be a burden on it for ever . . .unless someone has the guts to get rid of them!

Why hand any awards out to asylum seekers or Aussie born bludgers?
The only thing stopping single mums or dads from working for a living is pure laziness..Dont forget that most people in two parent families work full time so whats stopping single parents from doing the same.

those fires were quickly swept under the carpet bogey... he never ever excepted any responsibility there even though the place was on fire.. and we were still getting told the fires were 20 ks away...

two firies who came from Sydney were told to go home and drove into the fires as they were leaving...lucky for us they didnt leave..500 homes lost all because a certain leader couldnt see the fire for the smoke.

they get away with murder in this town.

Many years ago I was a single parent that worked full time and studied at uni so I dont buy this crap that single parents need to suckle on the taxpayers teat for the rest of their lives. Its nothing more than a cop out from lazy people who decided to throw their future away because it was convenient at the time.
Like I said..the majority of two parent families have to work full time to make ends meet and because they want to make a future for themselves and their kids they dont just chuck it all in and go on welfare just because its easier in the short term.

Why is someone seeking asylum "trash"?

Could you explain?

And could you tell us why you call them "illegal"?

What is illegal about seeking asylum?

Under Australian law (S233A Migration Act), a “people smuggler” is a person who organises or assists another person to enter a foreign country to which they are not a citizen or permanent resident without a valid visa. This includes people smuggling syndicates who organise boats to Australia. However, the legal definition of “assistance” to people smuggling can be as little as being a cook on board, to driving the boat. As a result, Indonesian crew members, captains, middle men organisers and larger scale syndicates are charged under the law for varying levels of the same crime: people smuggling.

I am VERY VERY confused............a bravery award for a people smuggler??????

As Stanhope is administrator of Christmas Island, I assume he was administering Christmas Island, thousands of kilometres from Canberra.

This thread only shows how misinformed and ridiculous the xenophobes have become.  Most of the crew men on these boats do it from dire need of money to support their families. They dont know the level of hatred bestowed on them by the narrow minded.  And this is yet another sign of those arguing they want to stop boats for lives sake, less for their own prejudices sake, that they are full of crap. These men were brave under the circumstances and this bravery should be recognized.  Despite those arrogant enough on this forum to criticise them.  We should always celebrate the struggle for saving life.

That's a good point. I could just be an employee, or even the captain and not know there were people being smuggled.
