Karl Marx was Jewish - why are you complaining?

So were Stalin, Lenin and Trotsky

the bastions of socialism

Herbert,

When you take credit and marvel at the achievements of Einstein you must also recognise the monster of Frankenstein

Neither Karl Marx nor Iosif Vissarionovich were Jewish.

Karl Marx was raised a Lutheran, his father having converted before his birth.  He was baptised a Lutheran.

Iosif Vissarionovich was born to Christian parents, baptised and raised a Christian, even attending a Christian seminary before becoming a revolutionary.

You do seem to be having with your claims Chimp_Logic...   Roll Eyes

so you agree with me that being Jewish is merely another Religious denomination.

It is also a Cultural association.

Quote:
So one relinguishes their Jewishness once thy abandon the teachings of the Torah - or old testament

Yes they do, by accepting the tenants of their religion which often stand at odds with their old (viz, the role and identity of "the messiah" in Judaism versus that of Christianity).  However, they don't relinquish their ancestry or its associated Cultural associations.

I take that this means you admit you were wrong to claim that Karl Marx and Iosif Vissarionovich were Jews?  If so, why did you claim it in the first place?   Roll Eyes

I can switch within the polemic because the neuroticism of Jewishness aren't really important to me personally

It does however highlight how one can shift definitions to suit the trivial arguments at the time.

Remember Bob Dylan (Zimmerman) relinguished his Judaism for Christianity in the 1980s - that must mean he stopped being Jewish.

Can a Jew call themselves an atheist?

To point to cultural links of being Jewish, implies a definitional change to the meaning of the word Jew.

People need to make that clear when deciding who is be referred to as a Jew and who is not.

Frankly I don't give a dam

So much for your logic and so much for your claims.  Thank you for admitting that you're here only to provoke people.   Roll Eyes

I actually read this a couple of days ago.

Quote:
Diogenes Laeurtius wrote of Alcibiades, the Athenian general and politician of the 5th century BC, "in his adolescence he drew away the husbands from their wives, and as a young man the wives from their husbands." The form of homosexuality

So one man (apparently) did it, therefor the Greeks had an "overwhelming" interest in it?

Has anyone read Prof Shlomo Sands book "The invention of the land of Israel"? or "The invention of the Israeli People"?

An academic who works in a Tel Aviv University.

I wonder if Shlomo is a self loathing Jew? The second level of demonization of Jews who deviate from the formal zio-fascist viewpoint. They obviously cant accuse him of being anti semitic, so its self loathing Jew.

Interesting how many Jews are actually classed as self loathing

There's a section of the world's Jewish community who are very vocal in condemning anything they perceive to be even remotely to the right of Marxist ideology.

Many of them live in Israel and hold noisy demonstrations against the anti-Palestinian stance of the ruling elite.

They are white ants, collaborators, and traitors to their race, heritage, and homeland. They are rats in Israel's silos.

In the fullness of time their efforts on behalf of the enemy will receive its just reward.

Feigning disingenuous naivety isn't your forte, Brian.

Google has a whole library on the subject of the Ancient Greeks and their obsession with having anal sex with one another.

Dear Herbert

Thanks for clearing all that up for everyone in this very important thread topic.

You will have to forgive me if I take anything you say with a grain of salt. I am still reeling over your comments concerning the "Italians" (who didn't exist at the time) building the Parthenon and the ancient Greeks not contributing much to human civilisation.

I am sure you understand

Yours sincerely

Garbage. What did the ancient Greeks achieve - not much scientifically, just fapping off with their philosophical crap.

The scientific method was invented by the ancient GReeks when Eratosthenes conducted the first scientific experiment in about 190 BC

The ancient Greeks also built the first computer (see antikythera mechanism)

They built the first steam driven device

They also devised the first mathematical Proof, thus structuring how mathematics functions right up until this day.

They invented medicine as we practice it today, conducted the first formalised medical operations and offered the world the Hyppocratic oath which is still taken today by most graduating doctors. Democracy, theatre, art, literature, comedy - everything you see today is linked in some manner to the ancient Greeks.

I could go on, but I don't have the time to list everything

I am very impressed with what the ancient Greeks contributed to western civilisation

I am sure you understand - and presently surprised that you can actually read

I was experimenting with ideas 'outside the box' ~ but it's quite possible the Greeks hired certain Italian Masters and their apprentices to design and construct a few of Greece's iconic architecture.

It's nothing to be ashamed of.

And let's be honest, the Greeks were far too busy chasing young buttocks to have any time for all that construction business.

It's my guess the Italians - (yes, they were around in those days) - were hired by the Greeks to build roads, viaducts, amphitheatres, and a lot more.

Their contribution has been mostly notional and academic, and not of a practical nature. The contribution of the Italians was by far the most important from a technical point of view.

The Roman legions were responsible for setting the British on the path towards eventual modern civilisation. It was they who migrated across Europe and Britain, bringing with them a whole host of practical skills and administrative talents.

The Ancient Greeks made great reading, but not much by way of practical application.

Ah! So you're a pillow-biter. Now I understand your infatuation with the Greeks.

***

The Ancient Greeks were an extraordinary lot, and their genius is legendary.

Unfortunately they all got swallowed up into a bottomless pit from which Greece has never recovered. Despite this ancient brilliance, Greece never evolved beyond being an 'olives-and-goats-cheese' economy until very recently when it excelled at ship-building.

Garbage. Egyptians, Chinese, Indians and Mesopotamians were practicing science centuries before the 190 BC.

A simple device used to calculate an eclipse. Great for worshipping celestial bodies, but didn't really do much for the overall advancement of mankind did it?

and what was that? Just some magic trick to use in their temples. Practical use of steam engines were not recorded until thousand years later.

A very Eurocentric take on things. It obvious that the Greeks copied every thing that they knew from the Egyptians.
Before Hippocrates, Herodotus marvelled at Egyptian doctors' expertise in their fields: "Medicine is practiced among them on a plan of separation; each physician treats a single disorder, and no more. Thus the country swarms with medical practitioners, some undertaking to cure diseases of the eye, others of the head, others again of the teeth, others of the intestines, and some those which are not local."

Cranial surgery was conducted in proto-neolithic times.

The first known surgeon was recorded on 6000 year-old Mesopotamian cuneiform.

In Iraq, archaeologists have discovered ancient Sumerian bronze instruments with sharpened obsidian resembling modern day scalpels, knives, trephines, etc. Hammurabi's Code specific legislation regulating surgeons and medical compensation as well as malpractice and victim's compensation:

Quote:
215. If a physician make a large incision with an operating knife and cure it, or if he open a tumor (over the eye) with an operating knife, and saves the eye, he shall receive ten shekels in money.

217. If he be the slave of some one, his owner shall give the physician two shekels.

218. If a physician make a large incision with the operating knife, and kill him, or open a tumor with the operating knife, and cut
out the eye, his hands shall be cut off.

220. If he had opened a tumor with the operating knife, and put out his eye, he shall pay half his value.te]
