So I saw our Convention center mate this morning at his deckchair and seeing as I had plenty of time on my hands, stood with him in the early morning sun for a bit of a chat.

He's not homeless, he lives in a rent controlled apartment down near the Mexican border.
His name is Tommy and he served 1968 - 1971 in the 1st Brigade, 5th infantry division - mainly in and around the Ba Long valley on search and clear roving missions.

They also spent a fair bit of time providing support and backing up the Rangers.

He had minimal experience of Aussies in active areas but described them as "funny sons of bitches" who were "always organizing some kind of drinking competition with the American servicemen".

An interesting character.
