We don't question why a white male marries a black woman, but accept there's some sort of see saw imbalance which suits them both.

When it's the other way around we wonder why and perhaps presume there is an inequality, ie the woman has low self esteem. Maybe it's difficult to see that the couple could be bright enough to share the same intellectuality?
