My point was about Herby's bullshit about mixed-race people. I'm not just visably African-American, mixed-race, and my white wife means I'm set to start the Mocha Master Race. As I have made clear, I have a thing for ladies of the Caucasian persuasion, so imagine how hilarious I found this thread by some white guy whining about us darkies stealin' all da white wimmins. This quality of racist assholery is hard to find in the US now, so it's refreshing to see people that unashamedly bigoted.

My point in saying that Chard, was to have people think about how it is that people who might well genetically be 90% AngloSaxon, but have some extra melination in their skin, invariably identify with 'people of colour'.

I'll go further, I was often the only white at Jamaican parties. I picked up a few looks, but once the people that knew me 'had a word' I was never once made unwelcome. But when I brought along Jamaican friends to white parties, it just didn't work the same. Not that all the white friends I had were racists, but there were some.

I had Indian and Chinese friends too I used to hang with Lords and Ladies, artists and stock brokers. I was curious, that was/is just the way I am. I like diversity, but I have to say of all the groups I ever met I've a particular affection for Jamaicans. Those parties had no age barriers either. Young kids and real oldies all rocked along to the same music and helped each other with food making and stuff. There's a lot about Jamaican culture that's bloody good and of course that's been noted in London which was/is formed and reformed constantly by waves of immigrants since the ice melt made it habitable only 10,000 years ago.

the young girl from sri lanka on the abc in the morning is tres beautiful, as are several of the persian women on al jazeera.

surely its just a matter of personal choice. i have always preferred brunettes and have friends who have always prefered blondes. i doubt its scientific. no more than a preference for the fish or the chicken at one of those awful weddings where they turn it into a swap meet

Superficial charcteristics such as skin, hair, eye colour don't really matter, and will vary with peoples tastes. But traits such as facial symmetry, and an optimal hip/waist ratio (~0.7) are, and have always been universally considered attractive. There actually is a measurable, objective standard of beauty, which closely correlates with signifiers of fertility.

are born to single mothers. Those mothers are far more likely than married mothers to be poor, even after a post-welfare-reform decline in child poverty. The truth is that we are now a two-family nation, separate and unequal—one thriving and intact, and the other struggling, broken, and far too often African-American.
