Oh I don't know, a nice bottle of bin 389 on a cold winter's night, followed by whatever's left in the cupboard and morphing into an incoherent asshole on the internet can't be all that bad can it? Cheesy

Yes, nothing really special. It was vodka and had 1.5 standard drinks.

This is the 21st century. The worth of a "man" doesn't come from reckless, risk-taking macho, macho, alpha male behaviour that is characteristic of many species in the Animal Kingdom. Such attitudes and behaviours hold back the progress of civilisation. One must choose between enlightenment/civilisation and recklessness/decadence.

If you want to challenge me to a duel at dawn tomorrow, the answer is no. I don't need it. My honour does not depend on it. Cheesy

I think alcohol is a huge problem in Australia.

We have been conned by the alcohol industry to accept alcohol misuse as "normal"
I see so many people that can not function unless they have a supply on hand at sport, any social function , after work, just about anywhere.
That is seen as normal, whereas I think that is abnormal.
If you cant go out  on any social event and not have to worry about the logistics of how you will have alcohol on hand, that is abnormal.
Like , fishing trips , camping, shooting,  sports events, kids picnics so many places where the use of alcohol is down right dangerous, yet so many see it as normal.

bump
often drinkers drink to mask their emotions.

Which can more than not, often lead to a problem drinker.

I drink most nights of the week, 6-10 standard drinks a night.

Usually scotch/pepsi max.

1 x 750ml bottle of Shiraz (13.5% alc/vol) is 8 standard drinks.

Alcoholism is a huge problem in Australia especially for our youth. It is available almost around the clock and clubs and pubs stay open until 5 or 6 am.

We have become a nation of very heavy drinkers - probably on par or worse than the UK.

In another 20 years, next to obesity, cirrhosis will be the big killer.

Alcoholism and obesity are causes not diseases. Cirrhosis and ???? i think you meant but what is the ????

Anyone doing this already has a problem, and is unable and/or unwilling to recognise it.

Normalisation of boozing is a real issue - when i saw the adults at a 9 yr olds birthday party openning the bubbly and beers at 10.30am it screamed 'wrong' on every level. I'd already quit all alcohol by then, but this image just reinforced how wrong we have got it here.

The only problem drinkers are those who disappear when it's their turn to shout.

We all know that excessive alcohol consumption may cause death. Can anyone estimate how many births it's responsible for?

Both of my ex-wives drove me to drink, for which I'm forever grateful.  Cool

Cirrhosis of the liver.

Obesity doesnt cause cirrhosis of the liver. In fact the latest news is that alcohol doesnt either.  A virus or something called hepatitis c actually causes it and alcohol makes it get worse faster.
